Hello guys, and welcome back!

If you just got admitted to LiU, congratulations!! And if you want to get to know the city you will live in for a while, you came to the right place.

After my last blog post, where I broke down Linköping in macro areas, I wanted to go a little more in detail regarding student life areas. We all know that Sweden can be considered a bit expensive, but don’t worry: if you are a student you will get several discounts! And student discounts for night-life do exist.

There are a some student clubs and pubs that you might want to get to know before getting here, so let’s get into it!

Ryds Herrgård (HG)

HG is a student pub, but it’s also so much more. It’s located in Ryd (as written in the name… you will soon find out that most of Swedish places are named after where they’re located) which is the main student area in Linköping. At night it becomes a pub where you can get beers and drinks for a student-appropriate amount of money, but during the day it’s a really wonderful study place. Also, they have a pool table that you can access for free!

Kårhuset Kollektivet (KK)

KK is one of the two main student clubs in Linköping. It’s in the city centre and it hosts most of the sittnings: formal dinners organised by student associations, after which you directly start dancing! Moreover, it’s accessible during the day but it remains a pub. During the night time, you have to have a student card (Mecenat, Stuk…) to access the club, so do not forget that!

(Student cards are really easy to get: just go on their website and follow the steps. You will have to download the app and send in proof that you’re a student in Sweden and you card will be immediately available on your phone!)

Flamman

Flamman is a student club that is open only Fridays and Saturdays, from 10:30PM to 3AM, and the price is usually 60 SEK (about 5,50 EUR) and you have to have a student card to go in! Once again, the prices are affordable and you can have a very fun (and cheap) night!

VilleValla

This pub is close to the city centre and once again, it’s exclusively for students! You have to show your card if you want to go in and inside you will find not only a lot of kinds of beers with affordable prices, but you will also find several board games! It’s open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 6PM to 11PM (or 2AM on weekends) but be careful because it fills up pretty fast, so try and be there early-ish if you want to play a board game!

Kårallen

Last but not least, I MUST mention Kårallen. It’s located in University, and it’s the home to all student associations! There is a cafe, a canteen, tables that you can use to study or to have fika with some friends, and at night… It becomes a pub! On Thursdays and Fridays you can go and have a student-priced beer or cider, and once a week you will be able to experience Kravall! Kravall should have a blog post of its own since there are so many things you could say about it, but what you have to know is that it’s one of the best traditions that LiU has to offer. You have to buy a ticket and wear your overalls, and you will find yourself in a true university party! Everyone will be wearing their faculty colours, and you can buy a patch of the event to add to your overall!

Here’s a picture of me with two friends at Kravall!

Next time I’ll write a blog post about Kravall, because it’s an amazing experience that everyone should try out, so stay tuned!

Hope you’re ready to have some fun!
