Hi everyone!

This week I am back with another blog on a recent little trip I did. For this trip, me and my friend went to Jursla, a town close to Norrköping, but more importantly, close to an incredible national park called!

My friend from the Netherlands came to visit me last week, and that weekend it was her birthday! Therefore, I wanted to surprise her with a weekend getaway. I was looking into places to go and I had some conditions:

  • Student-budget friendly
  • Close to or in nature
  • Reachable by public transport
  • Not too far away because we only had one night
  • It needed to be “typical Swedish”

Therefore, I started looking at bigger cities, hostels, Airbnb, nature areas, and all the other fun stuff. Soon I realized that going to a bigger city would be quite expensive as the accommodation is costly and the public transport can be expensive as well. Therefore, I started to look into places in our province, Östergötland. The good thing about staying in the province is that public transport is really cheap. I was recommended to visit the nature area called Ågelsjön by friends before and I started looking into options to stay the night there. Eventually, I found a super cute Airbnb close to the nature area. It checked all the boxes so I booked it right away!

When my friend was here, we did some grocery shopping and got on the train to Norrköping (on the weekends, a single ticket for all public transport in Östergötland costs 88,48 SEK for two people, and a 24-hour ticket costs 176,96SEK for two people). In Norrköping we needed to switch to a bus to Jursla Skola. From there we only had a ten-minute walk to our Airbnb, which was nicely located on a hill in the backyard of a family. The house was tiny, red, and had everything we needed. We were lucky and had a lot of fresh snow a couple of days leading up to the trip. So, as soon as we were settled in the house, we went out into the nature park to explore. As the experienced nature girl I am, I did not look up a route, I didn’t have a functioning map on my phone or a lot of battery. However, the nature area had some paths and arrows we could follow. We definitely still got lost but that was the fun of it. The nature area was absolutely gorgeous and for sure the nicest place I’ve been to in Sweden, so I would highly recommend going there! We walked along many lakes, played in the snow, and enjoyed each other’s company. The big lake, also called Ågelsjön, was our final destination where we had some fika and took a rest from our adventure. On our way back, we decided to take an easier route and we walked through a skiing area called Yxbacken. This looked like a lot of fun and if you are into downhill skiing, I think this could be a nice daytrip activity!

The next day, it was my friend’s birthday, so I baked her cookies and we stayed in bed for a long time enjoying the view. I love Linköping, but it is always something special to go away for the night. We were very relaxed but also excited to explore. So, after we checked out of our Airbnb, we took the bus to Norrköping and explored the city. Norrköping is a gorgeous city with many museums, restaurants, parks, etc. We ended up in Mocca deli, a café/restaurant that is very cozy on the inside, and the food was incredible. We spend hours just talking, playing games, and crocheting. After we filled up our bellies with cake, we happily made our way back to Linköping.

All in all, we had a lovely weekend with a perfect mix of nature and city adventures. I would highly recommend visiting the Ågelsjön nature area, even if it is just for a day trip.

I hope this blog post made you excited to go out and explore the beautiful Östergötland!
