Greetings, fellow international master’s students at Linköping University! As we navigate the chilly winters and long nights in Sweden, it’s crucial to create a cozy and inviting space in our corridor rooms to combat the darkness and embrace warmth. Nowadays, I’m moving out from my room to another corridor room which is making me searching for decoration inspiration for my new room. Here what I have got to transform my room into a haven of comfort and inspiration

The first important hint is to maximize natural light by keeping windows unobstructed and incorporating sheer curtains or blinds to let in the maximum sunlight. So, place mirrors opposite windows to reflect the natural light  which will make the room feel brighter and larger. Also, I found out that creating a multi-layered lighting scheme to cater to different needs and moods is important. Task lighting for study sessions, ambient lighting for relaxation, and accent lighting to highlight special features can transform your room into a versatile space.

Another amazing idea is inviting textures which can add a sense of coziness and warmth to your corridor room. Layer plush rugs, fluffy throws, and cozy blankets on your bed or seating area. Add throw pillows with different textures, such as velvet, faux fur, or knit, for a touch of visual interest.

As a person who adores plants, bringing nature indoors by incorporating plants into my décor was an amazing touch. So, place potted plants on shelves, windowsills, or tabletops to add a touch of greenery and freshness. Decorate with personal mementos, souvenirs from your travels, or artwork to create a unique and inviting space.

A great recommendation from a friend was to utilize wall space and corners to create hidden storage solutions. Install floating shelves or cabinets to store books, décor items, or personal belongings. Invest in ottomans with storage compartments to hide clutter and add extra seating.

Finally, I have learned that instead of fighting the darkness, I should embrace it with warm and inviting lighting. String fairy lights along shelves or windowsills to create a magical atmosphere. Use dimmer switches to control the intensity of your lighting for different moods.

As you decorate your corridor room, remember to prioritize your comfort and well-being. Create a space that reflects your personality and provides a haven of warmth and inspiration during your time in Sweden. Enjoy your cozy sanctuary and make the most of your study experience!
