Hello my dear readers,

January 11th was a special day for me. It was the day I presented and defended my bachelor’s thesis. I knew that this day would come but now that it came and has gone, I miss it. Doing my thesis made me realise that I love working in the lab, doing experiments and it really is the best way to learn things in my opinion.

I didn’t feel a lot of stress while writing my thesis but I will not lie, the research bit was frustrating because there were not many articles for one of the specific topics I had to write about. Overall, I would say that I enjoyed writing my thesis because it felt like I was able to document all my hard work into a paper and present it to my supervisors and examiners. Researching my topic – neurobiology and cancer biology, was thoroughly rewarding, it was complex, it challenged me and it grossly opened up my thinking abilities. I am a person who also loves writing in general, that is why I write blogs for you guys too 😉 I also love making my writing look pretty with a nice font, good spacing and all the little bits, it satisfies my heart so much <3 Another aspect of writing that I enjoyed was spending time with my girls. We spent tons of hours in the library in front of the monitors and it was so motivating to work in that environment, I got so much work done but we also made silly jokes, consistently ate Pressbyrån food for so long and promised each other that we would get through this.

AND WE DID! Presenting my work was so rewarding because I really felt like I could show off my new gained knowledge to people around me. My examiner, Karin, she was so wonderful and asked some really nice questions that opened up my critical thinking abilities during the defense. My supervisor was honestly the best I could ever ask for, he always uplifted me, sent me positive criticism all the time and even came by during my presentation to personally wish me luck. He was a big SLAY!

Thesis period is now over, and I am back, in a classroom. Its nice to have classes again as our courses right now are the most interesting they’ve ever been but at the same time, I really miss working in the lab. Hopefully after graduation, I will be able to get a summer job somewhere and continue lab work.

This entire degree project truly is what you make of it, in my opinion. Of course it will be challenging, it is meant to be. That doesn’t mean that you cannot take a challenge with a positive attitude! My advice is to be open-minded, feel grateful that you have a chance to learn something new and take everything as it comes. It may seem like everything is happening so fast but I promise you, you will be ready for it when your time comes. I believe in all of you, good luck to everyone writing their thesis this semester, may it be the best rollercoaster of emotions, success and achievement you’ve ever been on <3

Till next time my wonderful readers,

Shivani <3
