Hi guys! Welcome back!

Today I wanted to talk to you about the importance of networking, especially if you’re doing a Master Program, and how this can help you in and out of University.

Last year, during one of my courses, my professor gave me and my course mates the opportunity to work at an existing project for the University, and I immediately accepted. I collaborated with another professor in University and I helped design a collaborative game that was later installed in the city of Norrköping and I modelled and printed the boxes that would contain the wiring.

The project went on for a couple of months and we met again in September for the installation in the city! In November, that same professor that I worked with emailed me saying that he had a thesis proposal that could be interesting, and that is how I found the project I’m currently working on.

Do not be afraid to put yourself out there and accept a challenge, because you never know what will come out of it. Mine was a shot in the dark because I didn’t know what I was working towards when my professor talked about this “game”, but I must say that the results exceeded my expectations! Especially since a very interesting thesis-collaboration came out of it!

If you you don’t feel very brave, don’t worry! LiU will help you! I’t not uncommon for Master Programs to set courses around collaborations with companies. For example, during a course I did last semester, we had to look for a company that needed help with an ongoing project and help them with Participatory Design guidelines. My group and I found a company called Switch to Sweden and we helped them improve the ChatBot they were launching on their website. We collaborated and came up with really good results, and later on we connected on LinkedIn to stay within reach!

LiU will help you out, but don’t be scared to keep in contact with these people! You never know what will happen, so embrace the challenge!

Good luck!

-V
