Hej, hej!

Today, let’s talk a bit about what LiU has to offer to help you during your studies 😀

Linköping University’s style of teaching promotes self-studies and group work. Therefore, it is not possible to just attend classes and “be done with it”. You actually may need to spend a lot of time outside of the scheduled hours at the university. Perhaps you will also need additional literature or prepare prototypes. I think LiU is quite good at providing comprehensive support services. From academic resources to personal well-being, LiU fosters an environment where students can thrive. In this blog, I will explore the array of services available to students.

Academic support

Study counsellors

Each programme has a study counsellor who provides personalised study guidance with various academic matters including study strategies, time management, and exam preparation. It can also be a conversation about your professional future, or help with establishing small steps to achieve your goals. As mentioned, it’s personalised so it really depends on you what you need help with in terms of academic or professional development.

Language support

This actually goes both ways – English and Swedish. You can get help with your academic English regarding writing and speaking. Your presentation skills must be good because you normally have several presentations during your studies and after all, you have to present your thesis. But, you can get help from for smaller assignments as well, because no assignment is too small to improve your language skills.

Additionally to academic English support, LiU offers Swedish courses. It is only for those who are already in Sweden but while you’re here why not learn a little?

Library resources

Linköping University has libraries equipped with a vast collection of books, journals, and online resources. Sometimes, if articles aren’t accessible to you, you can also request them and the library may get them for you. Also, librarians are available to assist students in navigating, if needed.

Study spaces

All campuses feature both individual study areas and spaces designed for group study. For those seeking a quiet environment, reading rooms are available, providing a silent setting as well as noise-free areas in the library. Moreover, you have the option to reserve group study rooms (or just for yourself 😀 ).

Technology and innovation

DigiMaker

The LiU library provides an additional service – DigiMaker. As per the LiU page, “DigiMaker is the library’s combined Digital Lab and Makerspace, a creative environment for testing and sharing technology, methods and experiences.” DigiMakers offers several advanced technologies such as a 3D printer, a fully equipped podcast room, and VR equipment. They also offer workshops for the available equipment so for instance you could get a 3D modelling workshop before you actually print something. Aside from the technological tools, they also offer something for creative souls such as stationery or modelling clay.

Printing

Printing services are easily accessible on every campus just with your pre-paid LiU card. However, if you need something special such as rollups, large-size printouts, thesis etc
you can check out LiU-tryck (LiU-printing). They can also help you with graphic design and image processing!

Computer and Internet access

All libraries have computers with internet connection that you can log into using your LiU-ID. Moreover, there are special computer rooms which you can also access with a LiU card where you will find computers with e.g. several screens.

Mental health

StudenthĂ€lsan or Student Healthcare Centre is a service where you can confidentially and free of charge discuss with a professional your wellbeing, health and essentially everything and anything whenever you feel like it! Moreover, they prioritize short waiting times to ensure prompt access to their assistance. In cases where they can’t provide the answers, they’ll assist you in connecting with someone who can. Remember, the consultation focus doesn’t have to be exclusively on academic matters; it can encompass any issue that may impact your studies in various ways. No inquiry is deemed too small, too large, or inappropriate.

In summary, to provide a holistic educational experience, LiU offers a comprehensive range of services it offers to students. From various academic support to mental health services, the university strives to create an environment where we, students, can flourish intellectually and personally. If you would like to use any of the available services, you can find them on Liunet or Lisam or simply by typing in the browser 😉
