Hey guys! Welcome back!

Today I wanted to talk about what I do during my free time. Since I’m a second year Master student I’m very often on my computer working for class or doing some research for my Master Thesis, so I always try to do some physical activity when I have the chance.

My favourite activity ever is playing volleyball, and last year I joined a telegram group with other people that like to play. We meet one or two times a week in campushallen and we split the cost of the court. As soon as the weather is a little warmer, we play in the beach volley courts in Ryd. Honestly, I was a little bit shy at first since I didn’t know the other people, but after I went the first time I had so much fun that it became a weekly appointment.

Another thing that I really enjoy doing (weather permitting, of course) is going for a walk in the forest! Recently I biked 50 km to reach Storsjön, a place that allowed us to cliff jump! The ride was a little bit tough but it was definitely worth it, because the view was incredible and the water was warmer than I thought it was going to be! The picture that you see is the one I took when we stopped for our first break. I never biked this much and after 20km I didn’t even have the energy to put the bike on its stand, so I just laid it on the ground. But after eating a peanut butter bar I was ready for the last 5 km! And i have to say that after jumping in the water and having lunch, the ride home was way easier and we didn’t even have to stop.

Last week, a friend of mine and I went to Ågelsjön with the motorbike and we hiked to a cliff. We ate lunch there and then stayed until the sun was setting. This is truly one of the most peaceful places I’ve been to, and I highly recommend it. During the summer it’s also a very nice place to camp overnight, since they also have windshields scattered around with a nice fireplace next to them.

While the weather was still warm enough, my friends and I decided to go windsurfing with LiU Water & Wind! We became members of the student association, we signed up for the event on Facebook and we were off! We went to Roxen with the bus and were in the lake all day, and later we had hotdogs. This day has been incredibly fun because I stepped out of my usual routine.  I haven’t windsurfed in years before this, and it was truly amazing to experience it again! I didn’t think I would pick it up again that easily, but luckily I did and I’m truly happy about it!

There are so many things that you can do in Linköping and the surrounding areas in your free time, and these are just a couple of the activities that I like to do. And please, do not let the winter weather stop you! There are many activities that you can do indoors, and I find that it’s important to break out from your routine and try new things, even if the weather is not too accommodating. There are many students associations that organise activities so it’s very easy to find the ones that most suit your interests!

I hope this helped you get some inspiration on what you can do in your free time!

Until next time,

-V
