Hello everyone!

Two weeks ago, Sweden experienced some of the best weather of the year, and my friends and I were determined to make the most of it. Throughout the week, we seized every opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, sitting outside after class, going on walks, and even prioritizing getting a spot at the outdoor seating on Store torget, rather than getting work done :D.

On Saturday, we decided to take advantage of the amazing weather by doing the ultimate “good weather thing” and heading to the ocean. Equipped with blankets and towels, my friends and I set out on an adventure to Västervik, a picturesque coastal town located in southeastern Sweden’s province of Småland. Nestled along the stunning Baltic Sea, Västervik is renowned for its breathtaking archipelago, consisting of thousands of pristine islands, islets, and skerries. We hit the road at around 11 am and embarked on a scenic drive that took us through charming towns and countryside. After around 1.5 hours of driving, we finally reached our destination.

On our way to Västervik, we made a stop at an ICA Maxi to stock up on supplies for our seaside picnic. We bought too many freshly baked baguettes, a variety of  hummus, and plenty of fruit for a proper seaside picnic. Driving through Västervik was so pretty, and I hope I find the time to go back some time to explore the town a little but we made our way directly to the ocean. We were eager to reach our destination, and after a short drive, we found ourselves at a picturesque bay with  sand, inviting picnic tables, and barbecue spots.

After arriving at the beach, we set up our blankets and towels, unpacked our bags and had a lovely seaside picnic with the foods we bought earlier. With our stomachs full, we decided to enjoy the beach by playing a game of kubb, a traditional Swedish game that involves throwing wooden batons at wooden blocks.

The crystal clear waters of the Baltic Sea were tempting us to take a dip, but  the water was WAY too chilly for us to swim. Despite this, we had a great time on the beach and stayed for the entire day, lounging around, playing card games, and basking in the sun. It was incredible to have such warm weather in April, and we cherished every moment of it. As the sun began to set, we packed up our things and made our way back home, exhausted but content after a wonderful day spent at the beach.

Overall, I highly recommend a trip to Västervik in May when the weather is warmer and the water might be more inviting. Hope all of you are doing well and are enjoying the longer days and sunnier weather!
