As I mentioned on my last blog, Ramadan is considered a significant event for me every year. The main thing that brings Ramadan’s vibes to me is my people. It is more bearable to fest with someone and also eat in different family and friend’s gatherings every day in the month. Before Ramadan starts, I was concerned about how my first Ramadan away from my family will be. The first thought that I will be so depressed to be alone through it. Besides, feeling left out and away from all the moments that my family and friends spend without me there. Despite all this, I decided I’m going to bring Ramadan vibes to myself here.

First, for fasting Muslims follow the local of sunrise and sunset in the city they live in. I used to fast around 16 hours at the beginning of the month. However, and because the days starting to get longer nowadays, I ended Ramadan fasting around 19 hours. This was a little tiring for me.

As Ramadan starts, I was concerned about having some vibes in my room. Thus, I bought some light strings, and I had an amazing time making the decorations. We used to make it from colorful papers and cut them into triangle shapes and attach them to a rope and hang them over the walls. Also, the candles gave me a very cozy feeling beside that. One thing that Also gives me a great feeling of Ramadan is leaving my laptop always on one of the Egyptian TV channels that present all the new Ramadan shows and series. This makes me feel home.

In Ramadan, we used to make testy dishes every day and there is also some Ramadan traditional food. I planned to make all the desserts that my mom used to make in Ramadan. This was a great chance to try new recipes and spend more virtual time with my mother to follow her way of making the food.

Ramadan is always a good chance for me to detox from bad eating habits, so, I made myself a new food healthy routines and I tried new recipes that helped me improve my eating habits.

What helped my feel better in Ramadan was the small gathering I had with my friends to eat together. Most of them were not fasting but they were making all the dinners at sunset so that we eat together. This made me feel warm and happy.

Despite missing my family, Egyptian Ramadan vibes, my friends’ gatherings and the spiritual feelings I have back in Egypt, I have spent a great Ramadan here in Sweden.
