When I arrived in Linköping a lot of students recommended apps to me, that I MUST have to get by here. Overtime, when I started to settle in, I realised that not all of those recommendations were that useful. That’s why I wanted to give you a quick overview of the apps I started using here in Linköping which make day-to-day life here easier.

Mecenat

Mecenat is an app that serves as a digital student ID. You will get a student ID from LiU of course, that helps you enter the university after hours or on the weekends and serves as a free ticket for the campus bus to Norrköping. However, I come to learn that Mecenat is still very important to have. Once you obtained your LiU-ID you can register with Mecenat and start using its advantages. Those reach from discounts to simply verifying yourself. Since the LiU ID doesn’t have a picture nor date, bouncers for example will ask you for your Mecenat if you want to enter student parties. Furthermore, also in trains the ticket inspectors will want to see your Mecenat, when you booked your train ticket with student discount.

Östgötatrafiken

If you enter a bus here in Linköping, you will have to show your ticket QR to a little machine to make sure you paid for the ride. I was personally not used to this system and therefore very grateful, when my Swedish friends prepared me for that. To buy your transportation tickets, you will need the app Östgötatrafiken (which is the local transportation company). There you are able to check the bus schedules and you can pay with your credit card or with swish, if you already have it. Make sure to always choose student ticket, which is cheaper. After purchasing your ticket you will be able to choose when to activate it. Once activated it is valid for one hour.

LiU App

LiU has its own app to help guide you through the university and your uni work. It helps you find a classroom, check the schedule of the campus bus and book a room to study or meet up with other students for group work.

If you haven’t quite figured out how to use this app, check out Mandy’s blogpost about it! Especially in the beginning you will need this app, but also later on it will be of good use!

SharePoint

SharePoint is the software, where LiU’s intranet Lisam works on. Downloading the app will save you from always having to check your laptop, if you need to see what your professors posted or what article you have to read.

In the future I plan to give you more insight in what Lisam and Ladok (another university platform) are used for and how they work!

Until then,

Jule
