One of the good things that I love about Linköping university is that I can participate in one of the ongoing research projects and I can take it as one of my courses. And if you read my previous blog about “My Third Semester” you will know that I decided to do research skills courses for the second period of my semester. Thus, I started like an early bird to look for that interesting research projects that I wanted to participate in to develop my skills in practicing some research methods.

After doing my search I found an interesting project about democratizing the renewable energy in the new cities where the energy sharing is central, and everything come after it. As I knew my internship is so technical, I wanted to do the research skills in social science.

For me, doing a research skills course is not only interesting but also will help me to better understand how work on my thesis. As for me to write a thesis this year will be very challenging as I have never written a thesis before, even in my bachelor! Thus, I see participating in it will benefit me a lot in practice the methods, the analysis, and present my findings in an academic style. In my program I can take research skills course l and ll where I can practice different skills and tasks.

If you do not know there are different tasks that you can practice like qualitative research, literature review, interviews, text analysis, quantitative research, experiments, surveys, and questionnaire. In my course I will practice doing interviews as a skill as I see it very challenging as it needs to be very active to find first your attendant or interviewees which must be good fit for your topic. Then I need to transcribe all the data of course after recording these interviews, and finally I need to analyze these texts and trying to define themes and patterns to understand the interviewees’ perspective in the research topic.

Despite I see it challenging to first find good interviewees that are knowledgeable in my research topic, but I assume it also very interesting as I will hear and understand different perspectives and opinions. I am so exciting to it to learn new skills and after I finish, I will also share with you my learnings outcome and what to expect you can get from it.
