“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical transformation. You go to bed in one kind of a world and wake up in another entirely different.”

I come from Bihar, which is in the northeast part of India. I have lived in several parts of India like Kota, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, and others, for my studies and job. Each of these places had its own flavor of weather. Kota experiences a maximum temperature of around 44°C, while Bangalore is known for its pleasant weather almost throughout  the year and Pune’s best is the romantic rainy season. I had the fortune to witness all these beauties, however, no snow yet.

Sweden, being my dream country since childhood, I jumped out of excitement when I received the acceptance letter from Linköping University. The first thing that I searched after getting the letter was “Linköping in winter”.  I was mesmerized to watch the images of this cute, small city lying beneath the alluring layers of snow. Finally, I could see my dream to wake up in an entirely different world getting closer. With photography being my favorite pasttime, I simply couldn’t wait for winter to arrive.

I arrived at Linköping in early August, where I observed the Summer biding Adieu and embracing the ravishing Autumn. While capturing these amazing transformations of weather, I kept thinking about the snow hitting my face for the first time, “Will it be too cold for me to let it fall on my face? or “will I get some frostbite?”. I got these random questions every day. Amidst all these doubts, as it was approaching November, I checked the weather forecast every day for the next week, in order not to miss the early beautiful morning. I really hated the weather forecast in the initial days of November, because, it kept predicting false snowfall days. When November was almost over, I was a little annoyed, with the forecast.

At midnight of 1st December,  I wished my Dad a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and slept. When I woke up in the morning, I saw a text on my WhatsApp from my friend Emily – “It snowed!!!!!! 😍😍”.

I ran to my window, removed the curtain, and pulled the blinder. It felt so unreal. Last time, when I looked outside my windows, it was completely green and nowwwwww. “OMG” was  my first response.  I kept watching for straight 15 min at those magical, sparkling white powder.  It is really difficult to put that feeling in words. While writing this, I am actually reminiscing that astounding moment. Below are some pictures from my first Snow experience.
