Why did you move to Sweden for your Master studies?

This must be the question I have been asked the most ever since I decided to do my Master here.

For the past two years, during my Bachelor studies, I moved a lot between countries. From Germany to Spain to Colombia back to Germany early because of COVID and then to Switzerland for an internship. So, when I started to research for master’s programmes, I looked for international programmes but at the same time programmes where I would be able to stay in one place for a while. As I didn’t have a particular city or country where I wanted to go, I looked all over Europe. To be honest it was my brother that suggested that Sweden might offer something I was interested in. I had been to Sweden a few times before on vacation. I loved its nature.

Sure enough, once I started searching for programmes in Sweden, I found an overwhelming amount of interesting, English Master’s programmes. After some further research I realized the as European citizen I wouldn’t have to pay a tuition fee and the University Admission page also made it very easy to apply to multiple programmes from different universities. It also intrigued me to move to a country where I couldn’t yet speak the language (I’m of course trying to learn it now). Finally, I submitted my application in January.

I was very nervous in the weeks leading up to the admission results in April. As soon as I saw the admission letter in my inbox and read “Welcome to Linköping University!”, I knew that this was what I wanted to do. I immediately started looking for housing and getting to know everything there was about Linköping and the university.

And only a few short month after I packed the car up with all stuff and moved to Sweden! I’m very excited to see what else awaits me here during my studies! And I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with you!

All the best,

Emily
