4 Things to Do After Being Admitted
I’m admitted!! Now what?
If you are reading this post on/after the 27th of March that’s probably what you are asking yourself. Worry no more, my friend, I’m here to rescue you!
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS! 🎉 Getting into a master’s program at a top university is a huge achievement—take a moment to celebrate!
Now that we’re all happy and calm again, let’s get down to business. 👩💼 Moving to another country is exciting but also comes with a lot of logistics. Here are four key things you should prioritize right now:
1 – Accommodation
Register as soon as possible for housing in Linköping! 🏡
The two main housing companies, Studentbostäder and Heimstaden, use a point-based system. You earn one point per day after registration, and the more points you have, the better your chances of securing a place.
🗓 Key tip: Applications for new students open in mid-July, but if you start collecting points now, you’ll have a better chance of getting a place before the semester begins. Some students only find housing in September or even October due to a lack of points—don’t let that be you!

That’s what most corridors look like. Quite cozy!
If you’re studying in Norrköping, the main housing provider is StudentBo. Upload your documents, pay the deposit, and follow their instructions to secure your place.
2 – Visa & Tuition Fee
👥 EU citizens: Skip this step! You have free education and can live in Sweden with just your national ID.
🌍 Non-EU citizens: Pay attention! Your tuition fee must be paid before you can apply for a visa. Once you pay, LiU will notify the Migration Agency so you can proceed with your residence permit application.
📌 Important notes:
✔️ Paying your tuition also gets you health insurance, which is required for the visa.
✔️ The visa process can take months, so the sooner you apply, the better!
✔ ️ If you’re applying for a LiU scholarship, the deadline is March 31st —don’t miss it! (More info here)
3 – Transportation
✈ ️ How to get to Linköping/Norrköping?
Both cities are close to Stockholm, so you can fly into Arlanda, Skavsta, or other nearby airports and take a train or bus from there.
💡 Other options:
✔️ Gothenburg and Copenhagen also work, but the train/bus journey will be longer.
✔️ Linköping has a small airport with direct flights to Amsterdam—a great choice if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage.
Tickets to Sweden can be pricey, especially if you’re flying from the Southern Hemisphere. Start looking early to find the best deals!

4 – Banking & Money Matters 💳
Setting up a local bank account will make life much easier!
✔️ EU students: You can often use your home country’s bank card, but check for foreign transaction fees.
✔️ Non-EU students: Opening a Swedish bank account can be tricky without a personnummer, so consider using Revolut, Wise, or similar digital banking services for the first months.
✔️ Cash? No thanks! Sweden is almost cashless, so expect to use your card or mobile payments everywhere.
Obs: personnummer (personal number) is a Swedish identification document that you can apply for if you are staying here for more than one year. It helps to get a bank account, sign up in the public health care, and many other practicalities.
