The New Year is right ahead of us and while this may differ in culture and persona, new years are often associated with setting new goals, preparing ourselves for new challenges, and reflecting on previous journeys and experiences. If moving to Sweden sounds like your plan or is on your vision board for another year, then this blog will tell you more about what are tips and tricks to complete a winning application for your studies at Linköping University (LiU), and Sweden!

  1. Use of online platforms

All the application is run through an online platform UniversityAdmission.se, which makes the planning and submission a lot more straightforward to follow as you can submit applications to four different master programs or eight different bachelor programs simultaneously. This platform serves as an information hub, where one can also look up application requirements, deadlines, and contacts. So, my biggest advice is to use this portal and find all the relevant pages or contact the universities directly. At the same time many Swedish universities, including LiU, have online open-day fairs, where you can virtually meet and ask your questions to a university representative. More information about when and how these fairs occur can be found on official websites.

2. Carefully read the instructions

The requirements for a certain program will differ from background to background and will also depend on your country of origin and/or the country where you last received a diploma. These nuances are important to note, as providing all the necessary information is the applicant’s responsibility. While reading the requirements, one may have difficulties estimating if their previous experience is enough to fulfill a certain requirement of the University. If you are uncertain, make sure to contact the university representatives.

At the same time if you notice that your student profile is anyhow more than the requirement suggests, make sure to outline your qualifications professionally to make your application stand out. A piece of advice is to prepare documents like motivational letters carefully and resumes to present yourself thoughtfully.

3. Mind the deadlines

Check the deadlines before starting any of the preparations and plan everything accordingly! Keep in mind that the applicants are not allowed to change, re-submit, add, or delete their applications after the deadline has passed. My advice would be not to leave everything for the last minute, and try to complete everything at least a couple of days before the deadline to avoid last-minute chaos.

4. Discuss and seek feedback!

Applying for a university abroad is a very big step toward owning your future, and improving your habits and lifestyle. Yet it is important to keep ourselves in a supportive environment, which could also give us constructive feedback. If you are unsure about any of the choices, always ask for help, there are always people who know. Just have to find them (hihi)

With all this said, I wish everyone the best of luck and a Happy New Year!
