How can studying at Linköping University help you keep up with your hobbies?
Moving to a new country can always seem overwhelming and you may have questions such as “Would I find friends there?”, “Would they understand me as much as my friends do at home?” and “Can I continue playing my favorite sports?” The short answer is “YES!” If you need a longer answer, continue reading.
First, it’s a good idea to begin by acknowledging that environmental changes will inevitably influence lifestyle and mindset. But what can we do about it? Of course, there are plenty of ways. One is by continuing to spend time on your favorite activities and hobbies. Studying at Linköping University (LiU) gives you a good academic background and the opportunity to explore different aspects of yourself. Whether you want to continue building on the foundation that you already have or you want to completely reinvent yourself, LiU makes it all possible.
Every LiU student is familiar with at least some student associations and clubs, where students join for a shared idea—perhaps building race cars, conducting global socio-political debates, or mastering swimming. There are plenty of student associations, each providing a good blend of experience, knowledge, and a sense of community that everyone should experience during their time at LiU. Many of the student associations have their offices at the Kårallen building at the Valla campus, something worth checking if you find the time. Also, most of the associations are active on several social media platforms, which can become another way of familiarising yourself with them.
Another huge advantage of your studies is the very open possibility of building your own association if your idea does not already exist in the student community. This might sound a little scary in the beginning, but the process can equip one with a high sense of responsibility, and vital skills in project management and leadership.
The good thing is that it’s not only the university that always opens possibilities for its students, but the municipalities in both Linköping and Norrköping also put a tremendous amount of work into creating spaces for students where they can invest their time. This includes pottery and ceramics (at Keramikstudion Linköping), bouldering (Hangaren Ryd), yoga (YogaHuset), volleyball and many other sports in Campushallen, etc. Additionally, below is a picture from an inspiring business event, co-hosted by two city municipalities, designed to bring students and business leaders together. This unique platform encouraged networking, idea exchange, and meaningful conversations. If events like these excite you and you’re eager to be part of similar activities, studying at LiU offers plenty of opportunities to get involved and make connections that matter!
No matter what your interests and hobbies are, and wherever you are, keep in mind that studies at Linköping University have a lot to offer!!
