It’s that time of year!!

No, it’s not Christmas yet, IT’S APPLICATION TIME 🥳.

If you are struggling with deciding where to go, this post is for you. I invited three friends to share their experiences here to help you get to know our uni better. Hopefully, by the end of the article, you’ll be able to find the best place for LiU in your admissions ranking.

Our gorgeous Campus Norrköping

Beloved Campus Linköping

First of all, Linköping University is among the 2% best universities in the world. There are several options for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in different fields. For instance, our first interviewee is doing a Master’s in Experimental and Medical Biosciences. Ela is a student from Iran who chose LiU because of its internationally recognized quality.

“Liu University is well-ranked internationally, and its ranking improves yearly in order to compete with other top universities in Sweden and Europe-wide. I was first attracted by the published articles of some postdoctoral researchers and professors here.”

When questioned about her favorite things about her program, she argued that “Interests in basic analysis of next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics finally convinced me to choose this field.” What are those very fancy scientific names? Well, I won’t be able to answer you thtat 🙊, but it seems very interesting if you are interested in Health Sciences.

Another crucial reason for Ela choosing Linköping was the beautiful surroundings and green areas. That fact also inspired Hauke, an exchange student from Germany to come to Sweden. He says “In general I did choose Sweden because I really like the country, the culture, and the nature here. After looking for different options here I applied at different universities – LiU wasn’t my first choice, because I actually didn’t know the city before. But as I heard of all the different student activities, I am more than happy that I landed here because of the campus life, student culture, and all the nice people here.”

I can prove that with some amazing pictures that I took without leaving home, basically. I was lucky to see the Nothern Lights in my neighborhood and witness this amazing sunset from my window 🤩.

If that’s not enough proof for you, check my last blog post where you’ll see the beauty of Swedish autumn.  But let’s go back to our interview.

Hauke is doing a Bachelor’s in Business and Economics Programme, and going deeper into his experience here, he says to appreciates the quality of education, the small sizes of classrooms, and the variety of assignments. He also reinforced the joys of being close to nature and inserted in a multicultural environment, saying that one of his favorite things is “Of course the nature here we saw during many trips here – also the people I met here, on the one hand from Germany from different cities I haven’t been so far but also from all over the world like all my flatmates. Never in my life did I meet that many young, kind, and interesting people as here.”

Nature and sustainability led us to our final interview. Mayte came from Colombia to study for a Master’s in Design here. When I asked about her journey, she said to first chose Sweden because, being passionate about sustainability, she wanted to live and learn in one of the most sustainable countries in the world. After, Mayte started looking for program specificities and selected LiU or its broad design approach.

“I like being able to do ‘stuff’, like being in a workshop, but also having more theoretical knowledge and the possibility of research. On a university-like, I enjoy the internationality of the program, being close to people from different countries, and the challenge of not speaking my mother tongue.”

As you can see, there’s a place for everyone at Linköping University. Whether you are into medical sciences, economics, and business, sustainability, creativity, and design. Furthermore, there is a gigantic number of associations here where you can engage in different events and meet people with similar interests. Mayte, for example, is now the president of Navitas, an association that promotes events to increase and stimulate sustainability within the university environment. Ela, on the other hand, is part of a research group called Bioinformatic that, as you can guess, promotes scientific investigations on biology and technological aspects.  Finally, Hauke has traveled around the country (and out of it) with the Erasmus Student Network (ESN), seeing Scandinavin’s amazing landscape and hanging with students from all over the planet.

LiU is a vibrant place, with a rich student life, modern and super well-equipped labs, renowned teachers, and welcoming staff. The city is a charm, as you can see in other student blogs, with a rich history and several cultural events. A great example is the Light Festival, a free circuit with unique light designs and experiences through the city center. Oh, and I can’t wait for the Christmas markets! Yeah, Linkoping is a phenomenal place to call home.

Good luck with your application, I hope to see you here next year!

Xoxo, Nati.
