My dear readers,

Last month, I visited Dalarna during Midsummer and it was an absolutely amazing experience, so of course I had to share it with you guys! Dalarna is a county located up north of Sweden, it is a 4 hour drive from Linköping. My friends and I went there to celebrate midsummer as it is a very beautiful place with many traditional celebrations that we wanted to experience. We specifically stayed in a city called Falun, located in the centre of Dalarna.

On the midsummer day, we danced around the maypole, watched the maypole rising, had some fika and enjoyed the breathtaking view. It felt very special for me to share my childhood memories of dancing around the maypole with my friends, and create a new one with them. The songs that are usually sung on midsummer are children’s song, like Små Grodorna, which means small frogs, and usually there is a small dance accompanies with it, which is very cute.

During the weekend, my friends and I rented a small AirBnB and watched a movie, played some table tennis, grilled some tandoori veggies and chicken, and walked around the city of Falun. We even saw the Falun mine, which is actually a UNESCO world heritage site, so that was cool as I had no idea of that before.

It was overall a very lovely visit as I explored a part of Sweden that I never had before, and it felt truly so special, even more so that I could share it with my friends. I think, that for all of you international students, exploring Sweden in your friend groups or with classmates is such a good idea as you can share many memories together, and overall, a group trip is cheaper as well from a financial standpoint if you want to save money!!

I hope you guys also had a very lovely midsummer and took a chance to enjoy the sun and see more of Linköping!

Till next time,

Shiv <3
