Tips From Me as a Graduate Student
My dear readers,
Time has flown because honestly, where did these 3 years go?! As I near the end of my bachelor’s degree and look back, I thought I’d share some of the key things I learned that might help anyone still on their university journey. So, here are my top tips for surviving and thriving as a student—straight from someone who’s been through it!
1. Prioritise, but don’t overdo it.
Let’s be real, balancing student life is tricky. You can’t go out every night, but you also shouldn’t be glued to your textbooks 24/7. Life is all about balance! It’s okay to have fun and hang out with friends, but make sure to stay on top of your work too. Prioritising your tasks is key. Know when to grind and when to unwind—it’ll save you from burnout.
2. Move your body—it’ll save your sanity.
This might sound cliché, but trust me, working out or just getting outside for a walk makes a world of difference. University life can get stressful, and moving your body is a great way to clear your mind. Whether it’s going to the gym or just taking a bike ride through Linköping, it’s a small step that can really help keep you sane.
3. Make friends and build your support system.
Honestly, my friends were one of the best parts of my entire university experience. Not only do they make life in Linköping feel like home, but they’re also the people who’ll help you through the tougher moments. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and form connections—it can really make all the difference when things get tough.
4. Stay organised and use a calendar.
Organisation is everything. Maintaining a calendar (whether it’s a planner or a digital one) will help you keep track of assignments, deadlines, and social events. Staying organised is key to avoiding last-minute stress and missed deadlines. Plus, nothing feels better than ticking off tasks!
5. Attend lectures—it’s worth it.
I know, sometimes skipping a lecture seems tempting, but attending is seriously beneficial. Professors often drop hints about what’s likely to come up on exams, and even if you think you know the material, lectures give you a clearer idea of how to approach it. It’s a small effort with a big payoff.
6. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
If you’re stuck on something, don’t hesitate to ask for help—whether it’s from professors, peers, or even online resources. Nobody expects you to know everything, and it’s better to ask than to struggle in silence. You’ll be surprised how willing people are to help you out!
There you have it! These tips made my experience at university smoother, and hopefully, they can help you too. Best of luck with your university studies, and remember—balance is everything!
Till next time my dear readers,
