Hi everyone!

I’m currently writing you from the airport as I finished my classes yesterday and right now I just have a home exam to conclude my courses before starting my thesis! So before giving you my feedback on my program (Applied Ethology and Animal Biology), let me share my insights on studying at Linköping University and how to make the most of your time here!

University space

I was really amazed with the architecture of Campus Valla (never been to Campus US and saw very little of Campus Norrköping)! It starts with a really inspiring climb with the student associations’ logos on the road, and then the University starts! This University is divided into several big buildings (which are called “huset” or “houses”) that form a huge corridor, where usually students have their classes, study, or buy everyday school supplies.

Specific spots

Besides Student Huset (the library), you find several spots to study, heat your food, and hang out with your friends in every single building in this University, which I can say that I was really amazed since we don’t have anything like that in Portugal! Additionally, the library has six huge floors, where you can find quiet spots hidden behind big rooms and where you can go during the weekends to study or concentrate if you have something important to do (you just have to use your student card and don’t forget your PIN)! Also, you can also book rooms (where you usually have classes) online if you want to do some group work in a quiet space, for example.

And let’s talk about Kårallen. This is a building in the middle of the University that has all the offices for the student associations, and that also hosts parties, or some afternoon concerts (bonus: it has the cheapest fika 😉).

Food

You probably know this by now, but I would advise you to bring food every day because otherwise you may spend some money, and you don’t have that many options around! And don’t worry, microwaves here are pretty common everywhere, just be prepared for a short wait.

Art

It is really funny the things you can find when you are not expecting it! Sweden, and particularly the University, has a lot of different forms of art around which you usually may not pay that much attention, but once you start noticing them, you won’t be able to look away!

Transports

Biking is the way to go around here, with bike parking spots provided by the university to keep your it safe. But if biking isn’t your thing, walking is a great alternative. Fair warning: the climb up to campus might leave you breathless – quite literally!

Swedish course

Curious about the local lingo? The university offers Swedish courses, perfect for grasping the basics. While I couldn’t commit as much as I’d have liked, I highly recommend giving it a shot. For non-fee-paying students, the courses are free of charge, whereas for fee-paying students there’s a need to pay tuition fees (you can see more here).

Vacancies

Looking for a job? Keep tabs on university job openings; you never know what might pop up! Check out this website for updates.

And this is a brief summary of things that I think you should know before going to the University. Is there anything particular you would like to know? Just ask in the comments!

Stay tuned for more updates and insights – the journey at Linköping University is just beginning!

Thanks for reading, see you soon!

I would like to know more about the philosophy department, the admission requirements for international students and the funding opportunities available for international students.
    Thank you

      Hi Suzzette!

      Thank you for your comment!

I would advise you to search specifically which program you would like to study on this website https://liu.se/en/education/degree-studies, and then check for their admission requirements. Usually, the things you need to be careful about are specific requirements according to the country you are coming from, but there may be specific requirements for the course you want to apply for as well, so be sure to check all of that (it should be really easy!). You can find some of that information here: https://liu.se/en/article/masters-entry-requirements and the rest of it on the program’ website.

Regarding the funding opportunities for international students, here is the website for the scholarships provided by Linköping’s University: https://liu.se/en/article/scholarships, and there you can watch the webinar on LiU scholarships and financing your studies which should be really helpful!

      Hope this information helps!
      Leonor
