EID MUBARAK everyone!

Eid al-Fitr was just around the corner!

This year, I’ll be celebrating Eid here in Sweden, which will definitely be a unique experience compared to how I celebrate back home in Egypt. I will share a glimpse into how I plan to spend Eid in Sweden as an Egyptian student, and maybe it’ll spark some ideas for your own celebrations!

Let’s be honest, Eid wouldn’t be the same without the hustle and bustle of Egypt. The Eid delicacies Kahk (kookies), the joyous greetings with extended family, and the festive atmosphere everywhere you turn. It’ll definitely be an adjustment not having those familiar sights and sounds. However, that’s the beauty of being an international student, to have a chance to experience Eid through a different lens.

For me this year, I started the Eid vibes early where I invited my Egyptian best friend to make Kahk together. We played the Eid songs, shared our memories from our childhood in Egypt and imagined the morning coffee in the first day after Ramadan alongside some Kahk . A fusion of cultures in a cup!

Also, as we used to have new clothes in Eid, I bought some new clothes and Accessories. And also put some balloons in my room to feel the happiness of the event.

Eid is all about spreading joy and celebrating togetherness. Thus, I decide to take the first day of Eid as a day off from study and work and headed to Stockholm to wetness the biggest Eid prayer in the largest mosque in Sweden, The Vibes were amazing.

And I had aloooot of fun in my visit to Stockholm.  I managed to make this day a memorable one.

Eid Mubarak to all my fellow Muslim friends at LiU, wherever you may be celebrating! No matter how you choose to spend it, I hope it’s a joyous and peaceful Eid filled with delicious food, good company, and cherished memories.
