Hello guys and welcome back!

If you’re waiting for your admission letter or you’re thinking of applying, here is a rundown of all the areas of Linköping that you might want to get acquainted with.

Home

As a student, you will probably find housing in Ryd since this is the most popular student housing area. There are several options for housing like corridor rooms, apartments or even independent housing. Furthermore, there is Ryds Herrgård (HG), a very popular student bar, and Ryd Centrum, a very small mall with a supermarket, pharmacy and a few places to eat food. There are other ares worth mentioning where you can find apartments: Lambohov, Flamman, Colonia and downtown.

Here is a picture I took in Ryd, of what seems to be a common living area.

LiU

There are two LiU campuses in Linköping. Valla is the main campus, where most of the faculties and students can be found. You will also find Student Huset (Student House) where you can go eat, study, and visit the amazing student library. If you are in the medical field though, you will probably be located in Campus US, which is attached to the city hospital and is located downtown. Last but not least, even if not in Linköping, there is the LiU campus in Norrköping, that you can easily visit with the campus bus.

City Centre

This is the true heart of Linköping. Here you will find several places to eat and to have fun. There are a couple of pubs where most of the students go to and two clubs that you will get to know really well when you come here: Flamman and Kårhuset Kollektivet (KK). You can take a stroll near the river or in one of the many green areas that Linköping has to offer. Lastly, there are many apparel shops where you can find all the clothes you forgot to bring 😉

Here’s a beautiful sunset picture taken from the river!

Gamla Linköping

This is Linköping’s old town, and it’s one of the most precious places that you can find. In the summer, specifically on June 6th which is Sweden’s National Day, you will find all the shops open and everyone celebrating. In the winter they have a very nice Christmas Market where you have the chance to eat local foods. During the rest of the year it’s still a place worth visiting, because they have cozy coffee place and some green areas where you can hang out with your friends.

Here’s how Gamla Linköping looks in Winter and in Summer!

Tornby

Tornby is the main shopping site of Linköping. It has everything from clothing stores to hardware, from furniture to second hand shops, from restaurants to… IKEA! Yes, your closest IKEA is just one 20-minute bus ride away from Ryd Centrum. If you’re like me, you will find yourself eating there more than you ever had in your life, but remember: Swedish people love eating there too, so you might have to queue a bit during weekends, but don’t worry, its worth it.

So, are you ready to move here?
