Navigating LiU solo? Here are some tricks!
Hi guys! Welcome back!
I’m here to talk to you about how you should not worry at all if you decide to come to LiU alone! I came alone and I did have some “first day jitters”, but there are plenty of welcome activities and, for later, associations that keep organising events! I promise, if you put yourself out there you will find some people like you and you will create amazing memories.
For example, the main associations you need to know about as an international students are ESN and ISA. ESN is the Erasmus Student Network, but don’t let this stop you if you’re not an Erasmus student! They organise activities for anyone that is willing to join, and you will have the chance to meet people from all over the world! ISA is the International Student Association, and their aim is precisely to help international students with the transition to Swedish culture and life! Like ESN, they also organise a lot of events, and everyone is always welcome!
A very nice thing about these associations, is that they are always open to meet new people, so there is no need at all to be shy! But most importantly, both of them organise trips! There are several you can choose to go on, but the ones that people love the most (in my opinion) are the ESN Sea Battle and the Lapland trips to see the northern lights!
Especially during the first weeks of September, while the weather is still warm enough, there will be several barbecues organised in Ryd (area in Linköping where most of the students live), so if you’re walking around and you find a large group of people gathered around a small fire, just join!
Lastly, I wanted to mention that it is greatly recommended to download Telegram (in case you don’t have it). Since telegram can have groups with a very large number of participants, there are several groups that you can join! There are the ESN and ISA groups where they post every event that is going on! So if you’re ever in doubt on what to do, you can easily scroll and saw what’s happening this week. Also, most sport groups have their signup page on telegram, so whatever your interests are, you should check these things out.
Linköping University is very welcoming to anyone, so you just need to take the first step, but everything else will work out just fine!
Hope you’re worrying less now!
