As the year drew to a close, we embarked on an exciting journey to Flen, Sweden, from December 29th to January 2nd. With a group of friends, we decided to rent an Airbnb holiday house that could comfortably accommodate 18 people.

Our friends from Poland flew from Krakow, landing at Skavsta Airport, conveniently located near Nykoping. The Airbnb house we had found exceeded our expectations, offering a range of amenities. We had everything we needed, from comfortable beds to a private sauna, gym, snow-covered tennis court, football pitch, and even a private pier with a carved hole for ice bathing. The house also boasted a pool, table tennis, TV, and a cozy fireplace, ensuring our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
There were four of us who came from Poland. We currently study at Linkoping University, which is why we decided to invite many of our Polish friends to join the celebration. Our gathering had a predominantly Polish presence, with a subtle Finnish influence due to the presence of our Finnish friend, adding an international touch to the party.

Our first day was dedicated to settling in, getting familiar with the house’s facilities, and bonding over board games. We also ventured into town for some shopping and a taste of local culture.

On the second day, we embarked on a trip to Stockholm to explore Sweden’s capital and its rich history. Our visit included a tour of the National Museum, where we immersed ourselves in the country’s fascinating past.

The third day was all about rest and preparation for the grand New Year’s Eve dinner. We had an epic snowball fight. A few of us ended up with visible marks on our faces from the impact of some forceful snowball throws. After that, we cooked up a starters, celebrating the arrival of the new year with a feast of great dishes.

Following the celebrations, we took it easy on the next day, recuperating from a night of revelry. A leisurely walk on the frozen lake surrounded by pristine white landscapes provided a serene end to our adventure.

As our trip drew to a close, we cleaned the house and packed our belongings. With warm farewells, we dropped our friends off at the airport before heading to Linkoping for upcoming exams.

The trip had been packed with activities, leaving no room for boredom. The highlight was our sauna sessions followed by braving the icy waters of the private pier—a quintessential Swedish experience. The camaraderie was exceptional, and everyone cherished the moments spent in snowy Sweden.

In conclusion, our New Year’s trip to Flen, Sweden, was an unforgettable experience. The cozy house, the breathtaking landscapes, and the wonderful company made it a memorable way to start the year. We returned home with hearts full of joy, ready to embrace the adventures that lay ahead in the new year, knowing that the bonds we formed during this trip would continue to warm our souls.
