Hej everyone!

Today I want to share my adventure in Stockholm and give you some tips if you are planning a visit there! Although my friends and I didn’t meticulously plan our trip, we had a clear goal in mind: experience the Christmas market in the old part of the city, Gamla Stan.

First things first, we decided in which part of the city we wanted to stay in and how to get there. After checking our schedules to find the best weekend, luck was on our side as we caught a great deal on a hostel and travel just two weeks before our trip using Booking and FlixBus.

Our journey kicked off on an early Saturday morning, waiting for the bus near Reesecentrum, and finished at the following. Despite our short stay of just one night, it turned out to be perfect and we were thoroughly pleased with the trip.

Once we got there, we started our travel at a café, where we planned our itinerary for the day and started our walk around the city. Here are the places we visited on our first day:

A lot of stores – as we all were going home for Christmas, we visited numerous stores, ensuring we did not miss any potential souvenirs for our families.

The Royal Palace – while not the biggest or the most majestic building that I’ve seen, the different architectural style and the overall atmosphere of the place provided a refreshing change.

Gamla Stan – this was the sweetest Christmas market that I’ve seen! Though not huge, it was full of little shops with Swedish delights and Christmas smells (and, of course, the slippery floors).

Central station – the Central station became our go-to spot for warmth and food, accommodating those who brought their own meals and those who didn’t.

As we were really pleased with our first day, where we managed to visit almost every place we intended to, we geared up for another 20 km on the day two. We took in the fantastic view from Mariaberget and explored the island until it was time to catch our bus back.

It may seem that it was not that much, we covered a lot of ground (over 30 km), explored numerous stores and witnessed many wonders along the way. If you are up for it, I highly encourage you to go and discover this beautiful city! I cannot wait to visit Stockholm again in spring!
