Hello! Welcome back!

I’m here just to show you how beautiful Linköping gets in the winter.

Yes, it’s cold. I will not lie to you — last year we reached -20°C and it was damn cold! But there is beauty in this.

This is a picture of the first day it started snowing taken outside of Babettes, one of the nicest and most cozy fika places in Linköping. As you can see, there’s not much snow, but certainly it already gives the place more character!

Here is a snapshot of our campus with snow. I specifically love it when the sun hits and the snow makes everything even brighter, but you must always be mindful of the bikes! Swedes always bike, no matter the weather, so remember to keep an eye out for them and for the ice on the ground!

Another thing that I love doing is taking walks (although quite brief) in the forest — as you can see it’s all beautifully white, and as always, the sun helps make it more cozy!

Since we’re taking about snow, I might as well say a few words about Gamla Linköping’s Christmas market. Two weekends a year, you can explore the old town and buy traditional Swedish food and drinks. It’s really nice and well organised, and if you go at subset (3:30 PM) you will see some pretty amazing colours!

Lastly, let’s not forget about all the activities that you can do! I don’t particularly enjoy the cold so I don’t go outside for too long, but one thing I did do: iceskating! CampusHallen rents ice skates, and right behind the gym there’s a free skating rink that I really recommend! It’s a very fun and different way to spend a Sunday!

I hope this helped you a bit to find the upsides of Swedish winter!

Until next time

-V
