Hej everybody,

We are officially entering winter season soon and this can be a tough period for international students, especially if you aren’t used to the darkness and cold weather. Seasonal depression is also quite common during this period. As a Swede who has experienced these winters for a very long time now, here are my best tips.

  1. Wear your layers!!!Ā If you ask us Swedes, we will always tell you that there is never bad weather, just terrible clothing. As it gets cold during this time, layer your clothes – a turtleneck and then a vest or sweater on top, and then a jacket (for example). That is the ultimate way to stay warm and you can have fun with outfits, check Pinterest for inspiration and channel your inner fashionista šŸ˜‰
  2. Invest in a good winter jacket!Ā Winter jackets can be quite expensive depending on where you get them from, but if you invest in a good one, it will last you a long time. Make sure it is snowproof as well šŸ˜€
  3. Make your place cozy.Ā As it gets dark super early, buy some candles or a cute rug to spruce up your apartment or corridor. If your environment is cozy and cute, it’ll automatically put you in a much better mood. Christmas lights and decorations are also very popular around this time of the year and are always a cute accessory for your house.
  4. Hot drinks are your friends.Ā Its really important to stay warm, so try to figure out your preferred hot drink of choice. It could be tea, coffee, hot chocolate, lattes, etc. Maybe now is the time to go on TikTok and Instagram, and try some new warm beverage recipes. That way you learn how to make something new as well.
  5. Say YES to hanging out.Ā It can be very easy and common to isolate yourself during this period of time but remember to try and see your friends whenever you can. It will cheer you up, make you think less of the darkness and terrible weather, and you’ll make some great memories. Whether its baking or a cozy movie night, the little things are always appreciated during all seasons, especially the winters.

Till next time my readers,
