Hej everyone!

I’m Leonor, a first-year Master’s student in Applied Ethology and Animal Biology, and I’ve got a suggestion for you to start exploring the beauties of Sweden! Since I arrived in Linköping in mid-August, I’ve been keen on discovering Sweden’s culture and unique experiences. Although Sweden has many must-visit spots, I would suggest you to start with destinations closer to your base. For me, Norrköping turned out to be an ideal choice, conveniently accessible from Linköping. This pretty city happens to be close, making it an ideal choice for your initial weeks or months here! So let me guide you on a one-day trip through Norrköping!

I would say that the easiest way to get there would be using the University’s bus (you can find the schedule and stops in Liunet – “The Campus Bus”). I took the bus at the Universitet stop and left in Väster Tull for example, which is less than 50 minutes away from the University.

Let me share my Norrköping adventure with you:

  1. University of Linköping, Campus Norrköping

Norrköping’s campus offers a different vibe compared to Valla. It’s smaller, adorned with captivating murals, and sits by the river, making it a peaceful spot for some casual photography.

2. Museums: Visualiseringscenter C and Museum of Work

While I couldn’t explore the first one thoroughly during my visit, their exhibitions and captivating merchandise hinted at a world of knowledge waiting to be discovered. As for the Museum of Work, I’ll be completely honest and say that I only took some pictures of it from outside since I did not feel like visiting it on that day. However, I think it could be really cool if you enjoy history and want to learn a little bit more!

  1. Second Hand Shops: Myrorna and Busfrö Nyt & Bytt

Norrköping surprised me with its second-hand shops. Myrorna and Busfrö Nyt & Bytt offer a range of affordable items in decent condition, perfect for bargain hunters like me 😉.

  1. “Fotopoint”

Lastly, don’t miss the charming “Fotopoint.” It might seem ordinary, but it’s an excellent spot for capturing memories and winding down your day in Norrköping.

And this was my day at Norrköping, it may look like it was not a lot, but it was so good to go out of Linköping and discover new things!

As for me, I’m looking forward to revisiting this city. I want to explore Visualiseringscenter C in-depth, take a relaxed walk in Carl Johans Park, and admire the ancient petroglyphs at Himmelstalunds hällristningar. Norrköping is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered, and I encourage you to uncover them at your own pace!

If you’re curious about the expenses, well, it all comes down to your choices. Personally, I opted to cook my own meals, so I didn’t spend a dime on food during my visit. I only made a few purchases from the second-hand shops, keeping my spending minimal. Plus, the transportation costs were zero, thanks to the University bus and plenty of pleasant walking.

So, really, there’s no reason not to break away from your usual routine and give Norrköping a try! Pack your camera and a sense of curiosity and enjoy your time in this city. Happy travels!
