Hello my dear readers,

Some of you might already know but for a year now, I have been a part of ISA – the International Students Association at Linköping University. We are a non-profit student organisation who focus on organising fun events for all international and exchange students at LiU, in both Linköping and Norrköping.

One of our biggest events is called iDAY – International Day. It is a day where we have stalls representing different countries for people to get an experience of that culture. This year we had a wide range of countries like Peru, Chile, Sweden, Bosnia & Herzegovina, etc. All the stalls made some food to represent their country which everybody really enjoyed. I mean, who doesn’t love food 😉 Every stand did such a good job showing off their country and they were so creative and engaged, it helped make the event a big hit! I wore something Indian and painted the Indian and Swedish flag on my cheeks to show off my nationalities.

We also hosted a salsa dance workshop and had a mehendi/henna stand that represented some of the south east Asian culture. It was super successful and I was so happy to see that everyone was so enthusiastic to try something new. ISA also organised a photography competition where people submitted photos based on the theme “A piece of my culture“, and this was so eye-catching to view on the walls.

LiU is an international university, with over 30,000 students coming from all over the world. To celebrate internationality is a wonderful thing, and I really enjoy hosting/attending events like this where you can bond with people and learn something new. Sometimes we all can feel a bit a bit homesick and coming to events like this can help you meet other people with similar backgrounds to you, making you feel at home to some extent. So here is to all the amazing countries that all of us are from.

Till next time,

Shivani <3
