Hello there and welcome to my final blog post for LiU!

It’s hard to believe that two years have flown by and it’s now time for me to bid farewell to this chapter of my life. For this post, I thought I would share some insights into my upcoming graduation day, while also taking a nostalgic look back at my time here in Sweden.

In just a few weeks, on May 23, I will be defending my thesis project. I’ve been working on this project for a year now, and I’ll have to give a 15-minute presentation on it. I’ve also prepared a poster which I will present outside during a break for anyone interested. Although I’m not feeling nervous yet, I’m sure the nerves will kick in on the day of the presentation. After our presentations, there will be a small celebration where we can socialize with our friends, professors, and families who have come to watch us present. After that, my classmates and I will be heading out for dinner, karaoke, and hopefully some epic celebrations!

I must admit, this is a bittersweet moment for me. On the one hand, I’m excited to finish my master’s degree and take a break from studying. On the other hand, I’m already feeling awfully sad about leaving behind so many close friends and the life I’ve built here. Coming to Sweden has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve grown tremendously from this experience, made amazing memories, gone on adventures, and met so many kind people.

After graduating, I’m going on a celebratory trip with some friends before returning to Sweden to work on a butterfly project on Gotland, which is also the focus of my thesis. Beyond that, I have no idea where life will take me, but I’m excited for new possibilities.

Living in Sweden has taught me so much about the importance of work-life balance and efficient work while still enjoying life outside of it. There are so many little things about Sweden that I know I’ll miss – the friendly and respectful people, the efficient Swedish design, the impeccably clean streets, the biking lanes, the endless summer nights, the ubiquitous toilets, the fika, the refillable bryggcaffe… just to name a few.

Looking back, it feels surreal to think of all the amazing places I’ve traveled to over the last few years and how much I’ve accomplished in such a short time. I can’t believe that I actually lived on two Swedish islands for several months and that I’m about to have a finished master’s degree in just a few days. I’m so grateful for the past few years and all the people who made it so special. I also truly believe that my program was perfect for me and has exceeded my expectations for a master’s education.

If you’re thinking of coming to Linköping or preparing to arrive this summer, I think you’re in for the time of your life. Just be open and make the most of it, and you won’t regret it! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my blogs and following my Instagram takeovers. It’s been great connecting with you all!

Now, it’s time for a new chapter. I hope you’re all doing well, and I wish you all the best. // M.
