Hello everyone,

First of all, congratulations on being admitted to Linkoping University! It’s an outstanding achievement, and I’m sure you’re excited about starting your new journey. However, before you start on your adventure, there are a few things you need to do, and one of them is packing your luggage. Packaging your bags for your arrival in Sweden is an important task that requires careful planning and consideration. As I have been through this experience, I would like to share my experience to help you pack luggage efficiently and make your arrival in Sweden stress-free. Because I did some good and bad things. You can avoid bad and get good tips.

To ensure that not to forget anything important, I created a comprehensive checklist. This proved to be a valuable tool, saving me a significant amount of time during the packing process. So make sure to do the list first.

Not to pack too many clothes

As a newcomer to Sweden from Sri Lanka, I was unfamiliar with the country’s climate. Prior to my arrival, I researched the average temperatures and gained a general understanding of what to expect. However, I made a mistake in assuming that the warm clothes I owned would be sufficient for the Swedish climate. Unfortunately, many of my clothes did not provide enough warmth, and I was forced to spend additional money on winter clothing upon arrival. I had packed my bag with many winter clothes, but it was not enough. But better to Invest in one quality winter jacket When packing winter wear, specifically designed for the cold climate. But ensure not to pack too many. Remember, by packing smartly, you can save money on purchasing clothing in Sweden and have a comfortable and enjoyable stay.  Packaging for winter in Sweden can be a challenge, especially if you’re coming from a warm country like Sri Lanka. However, by prioritizing warm clothing, investing in quality winter wear, and packing layering clothes and waterproof clothing, you can make sure you’re prepared for the Swedish climate.

Most essential items

It is important to pack your baggage with essential items that will help you settle in and make your stay comfortable. As a student arriving from Sri Lanka, there are a few key items I considered packing to ensure a smooth transition to life in Sweden.

Shoes: Sweden has a variety of weather conditions, so it’s important to pack shoes that can withstand all types of weather. Consider packing waterproof boots, and sneakers. You can purchase other sandals in Sweden during the summer. Not to pack many pairs. So you can save space in your luggage.

Universal adapter: Electrical outlets in Sweden use the European two-pin plug. As such, it’s essential to pack a universal adapter to ensure that you can charge all your electronic devices.

Travel Documents: Don’t forget to pack all the necessary travel documents such as your passport, Resident permit, your other certificates, and flight tickets. Keep these documents in a safe and easily accessible place, such as a travel document holder or carry-on bag.

Medications: If you take any prescription medications, pack enough to last your entire stay in Sweden. Apart from it, you can pack some medications for colds, flu, and allergy. I packed fewer medications according to the doctor’s prescription.

Personal Hygiene Products: pack toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant. These items can be purchased in Sweden, but it’s always good to have some on hand when you arrive since you are not so familiar with the places to buy.

Bedding: As far as you see this you will not realize that it is essential. But in my experience, it is one of the essential items to pack in your bag. As you are not familiar with the place you are going to live, you will not be able to purchase these items on your arrival. So make sure to keep it in your baggage. Pack a set of bedding such as sheets, and pillowcases to ensure a comfortable night’s sleep.

A Map of Your Destination:  It is better to familiarize yourself with your new surroundings by downloading a map of your destination before you arrive. This will help you navigate your way around and feel more comfortable in your new environment. Search the supermarkets, pharmacies, and clothing shops and get familiar with the surroundings of the university. You can make life easy in Sweden.

Finally, don’t forget to consider the amount of luggage you can manage. This is particularly important as, upon arriving in Sweden by plane, you’ll need to transfer to a train or bus to reach your final destination. Keeping this in mind will ensure a smoother and more comfortable travel experience.

Until we meet next time,

hejdå (Good Bye)
