#5 Things helped me to improve my mental health!
On of the things that I am trying to take care of it from the first day I arrived to Sweden was to take care and improve my mental health for many reasons. Some of these reasons is to not feel homesickness, study stress, darkness depression, and loneliness. So, through this blog I will share with you my experience in tacking care of my mental health to feel happy and healthy!
Eat healthy food: the first thing I did was to carefully choose what I eat and how and when. Being far from my home and family is not an easy specially for someone like me who used to not think too much about food since my mum was the one who making sure to make food for all the family (I love cooking too) but my mum has great passion for cooking and baking and that’s why she was always preparing meals. But since day one here in Sweden I was responsible to cook for myself. So, I decided to try as much as I can to combine vegetables and fruits with good source of protein to get the balance and help my mental health to cope with any struggles.
Use your body: bring yourself to life with sport and music. This is also one of the things I found helpful to improve my health. So, instead to take the bus I used to bike, have a walk while listening to my favourite music, drawing, colouring, dancing (I started to dance with Hula hoop!) and it is amazing and makes me more happier, and the last thing to play sports. Maybe you think like me that you do not like sports but just give yourself a time to try many sports and I am sure you will loved one. For me, I tried squash, and I loved it sooooo much and it helps me get all the stress and negative energy out of my body. SO, just use your body, make it move, make it happy and that will make you feel better and happy!
Meditate: Taking meditation as routine helped me a lot to stay calm and able to think positively and focus on the good energy and good moments in my life. I found meditation is very helpful for me when I feel stressed or angry as after I meditate, I feel calm and able to turn my angry into healthy discussion inside myself and accept things that I cannot change.
Reflect: This is something I learned here in Sweden! And yes, only here. Before I come here, I never think about what does this word mean, or how should I reflect on anything. But I learned it during my studies here and I found it useful on every single aspect in my life as by reflecting I can learn from my mistakes; I understand things better and I can think in a way that would improve me and my way of thinking or acting.
Connect to nature: This way of improving my mental health is the best way ever. As when I get connected to nature, I practice many good things. Such as breathing fresh and clean air, look at beautiful scenes that are good for my eyes, escape from stress, and also practice good habit which is walking! So, I found that exposure to nature is needed and helped me a lot to improve my mental health,
