We all know how stressful it can get during your studies. On top of that there are always lots of other tasks and appointments going on, like a part time job for example. And then you want to have a social life as well, enjoy your new surroundings and maybe go for some trips to explore Sweden. If all of that sounds overwhelming too you, do not worry! There is a solution to that and it is called organising and scheduling. In this post I will share my method of scheduling my tasks and what I have learned on the journey to organising my life.

To start I want to say that don’t be afraid if all of this sounds daunting to you! If I can do it, you can too. It’s also important to know that nobody is perfect. Even with a thought-out schedule I still procrastinate too much and sometimes my plans just don’t work out. But that’s ok, every little step counts!

The first step on my journey was to have complete control and confidence in my calendar. What that means for me is that, I choose a calendar app and use it so that I know everything important is in there. My tool of choice is the Google Calendar, but it doesn’t really matter, you can just as well go with a paper version or any other app. Now as soon as any appointment with a fixed date and time comes up, I enter it in my calendar. This can be anything from a booked laundry room to a job interview. I also recommend you to subscribe to your university courses via TimeEdit so that your calendar always stays up to date and you don’t have to enter all your courses manually. When you follow these steps, you can always open your calendar and be confident to never miss any appointments.

But the most important tool for organising for me is Notion. This is an online tool which gives you a lot of freedom in creating pages. Every sunday evening I open my calendar and transfer all my appointments to an empty notion page. From this I try to fill up the gaps with time-independent tasks, like working on labs for my courses, working on my personal projects and even things like when I go for a run. Every category has its own colour. This results in a very nice looking and concise schedule for my week, where I always now what to do next. I think this really helps, because when I enjoy looking at my schedule, it motivates me to get my tasks done.

I generally try to keep my evenings free of work and my weekends very chill, with only easy or fun tasks, as it is really important to take breaks, in order to work more efficiently!

I hope this has been helpful for you and maybe you can use some of methods in order to stay ahead of deadlines and stress! If you have any questions, contact me in the comments.
