Linköping offers a great starting point for many beautiful day trips. In this blogpost, I want to give you an overview of a few of them, that I’ve explore in the last 6 month. There are of course many more places to explore, easiest by car but also by bus, train or even bike.

Roxen

North of Linköping you will find a beautiful lake: Roxen. In the summer you can go there to swim, but also in autumn and winter it is worth a visit. You can have beautiful walks, either starting at Ekängen or Berg slussen. That’s at least the two places I know and where I can confirm its very beautiful. I went once by bike, but the way wasn’t too nice since you bike through quite the industrial area. You can there easily take the bus number 10 from Linköping Resecentrum and you will have a great day with beautiful views.

Norrköping

Norrköping is of course one of the easiest places to reach from Linköping since you can take the campus bus from Campus Valla for free to go to Campus Norrköping. The city offers an industrial flair, nice museums, shops and cafes. I enjoyed the Arbetetsmuseum a lot and the entrance was free. Furthermore, to change scenery it is also very nice to go to Norrköping to study from time to time. The campus is situated very beautifully right next to the water and makes together with cheap coffee a great study atmosphere.

Stockholm

You don’t necessarily need several days in Stockholm but you can also make a day trip out of it and save the money for the accommodation. If you are lucky, you can get tickets to go and come back for around 300 SEK and it only takes around 1h 40 min for one way. I did that in November and could explore a gingerbread exposition as well as the Nobel price lights festival. Since Stockholm is a big city, there is always something going on, where a visit is worth it. I would furthermore recommend getting a day ticket for the Stockholm subway so you can make the most of your day. And at the end of the day it is always nice to grab tacos at … in Södermalm.

Vättern (Motala & Omberg)

Vättern is the second biggest lake in Sweden, and it is also not far from Linköping. If you go by train, Motala, a small city right at the shore of the lake, is very easy to reach from Linköping and offers cute cafés and nice walks. I went by car to the nature reserve Omberg, where you can go on a bigger hike also at the shore of the lake. It was really pretty but next time, I would prefer to go in summer instead of autumn to also go for a swim.

I hope you found some inspiration for your next trips here and to explore the beautiful surroundings of Linköping!

Talk to you soon,

Jule
