Hej everyone! In this blog post, I am going to tell you about my experience exploring a new area near Linköping. For those of you who are interested in nature and especially in trying saunas, I will now show you our little one-day adventure to the sauna in Grebo, an area south of Linköping.

Before we started our trip, we looked up some preliminary information on Google. In Sweden, it is very common to use saunas near lakes, and although there are many beautiful saunas in the Norrkoping and Linköping areas, this time we decided to choose a sauna that was easy to reach by bus and the walk was not too long.

One sauna I recommend is “The sauna at Upper Glottern” which is located in the area near Norrköping and can be reached by hiking when the weather is good. This route is best done when the daylight hours are longer as the path can be difficult without light.

But on this occasion, we decided to book 3 hours at the Grebo bastubåt. To get there, we first took a bus from Ryd centrum to Resecentrum, and then we took a bus with a slightly longer route from Resecentrum to the Grebo bus stop. To get there you have to book a mid-zone bus ticket which costs about 84 Kr return from Ryd centrum by taking a 24-hour ticket. From Ryd, it took about 50 minutes by bus and it only took us 10 minutes to walk from the bus stop to the sauna.

The sauna is easy to recognize and is located right next to the lake. Nearby there is a table for lunch with amazing views next to it. Walking a little further along the path near the lake, there is a small park, jetty, and toilets. Personally, the area was very well prepared and looked like a beautiful place for a summer day to swim in that lake.

In my case, I went the first week of February so the lake was completely frozen, but still, the views were amazing and we tried walking on the lake which was really fun. The lake was perfect for ice skate!

The sauna had a window overlooking the lake where the sunset light came in and made it very cozy. There were 5 of us and we were all able to sit inside the sauna. The funniest thing was that the sauna had a small door on the floor that you could open and immerse yourself in the frozen water of the lake to make temperature contrasts.  Something I had never tried before but after doing it for the first time I felt very relaxed!

Although at this time of year, the cold weather often stops us from exploring new places or activities, this can also be an opportunity to discover new places with a completely different and wintry scenery.
