The cheapest way of having lunch as a student is by preparing some food for the entire week at home. So, usually students in Linköping will have lunch box with them on Campus, which they will heat up at one of the many available microwaves.

However, sometimes it is nice to go out and have some lunch outside. My friends and I have made it our mission to try out the restaurants in Linköping centre that over a lunch buffet. These are the ones we have found so far:

Ming Palace

The Ming Palace offers an Asian buffet with a student price of 105 SEK. You have to show your Mecenat or STUK at the cashier to get the discount. This price even includes basic drinks like water, apple juice and off brand soft drinks. Their buffet isn’t very large but it offers a bit of everything, chicken, noodles, sushi and salads. One of my favourite things is that for dessert they have an ice cream machine and they have churros.

FYI the entrance might be a bit tricky to find as the restaurant is located on the second floor, just follow the sign on the sidewalk.

Merwah

Merwah is a Lebanese place. I haven’t had Lebanese before, but I was very positively surprised. The food was really nicely seasoned with all kinds of different oriental spices. The majority of their dishes are actually vegetarian which makes it a great place to go to with friends. While my friends and I really enjoy Asian food in general, we were all very much empressed by the food. Out of the 3 restaurants with buffet that we have tried until now, this is our favourite. This was also confirmed by the full tables at lunch time. It is quite the popular place for lunch breaks.

East

Lastly there is East, which is also an Asian restraint and located quite close to the central station. Contrary to the other two restaurants they also have a large lunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. So, if you fell like a nice buffet on the weekend after a night out, this is your place to be. They offer a lot more different food options than Ming Palace. They have a variety stirred fried rice and noodles, dumplings, chicken and other meats as well as a sushi section. And most importantly the also have an ice cream machine for dessert. Again, basic drinks are included. Overall, this costs 149 SEK.

We will continue to try out restaurants. Let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations in Linköping, that we should try next!

All the best,

Emily
