If you are studying in Linköping and you want to explore and do some trips but at the same time you don’t want to miss any of your classes, I recommend you to travel by train to Copenhagen for a weekend.
In this post, I will explain some of the places we visited and how we organized our trip to make the most of it.

First of all, we decided to go in December when we could see many beautiful Christmas markets. The only drawback is that the sun sets much earlier than at other times of the year, but it is not a big problem if you are used to the Swedish climate.

Before traveling we did 3 main things, first of all, compare train trips, you can find direct trains from Linköping to Copenhaguen. Secondly, we booked a hotel, and thirdly, we changed currency. In my case, I did the currency exchange inside my Revolut card, the card that many international students have.

I recommend that you don’t carry suitcases for a weekend, so when you leave the hotel on Sunday morning you can continue exploring the city with a small backpack.

Some of the places we visited were, Nyvhan, the famous street with beautiful colorful houses and boats and stalls by the water. The Little Mermaid is located in a place somewhat difficult to find but worth seeing. On the way to the little mermaid, I recommend you to walk through the star-shaped park where you will find the Gefion fountain. Walking there was very nice and it is a really quiet park.

Near the Mermaid you have other interesting places to visit, like the design museum and the Amalienborg palace, with beautiful gardens. From there, heading towards Nyvhan you can find the spectacular Opera House by the sea.

Finally, a destination that can be overlooked is the rounded tower. It is located in the middle of a shopping street and is worth paying the entrance fee. You will walk to the top of the tower to see spectacular 360-degree views of the city. The tower also has a small exhibition of the old interior of the tower and a modern art showroom.

A popular destination in the city is Christiana. Although many people recommend it, we found it a bit far from the main monuments and did not enjoy the visit. On the other hand, the Tivoli gardens are another recommendation to visit, but because of the cost of tickets and the reduced time, we preferred not to enter.

These were the main places we visited during our weekend. We took the train on Saturday morning, spent one night in a hotel in the city, and took the train back on Sunday night, so we were able to enjoy two days in Copenhagen, for little money and without missing any class days.

Is there any place in Copenhagen that you are looking forward to visiting? Let me know.
I hope you found it useful.
