Hi dear readers,

Today I’m showing you one of my latest favourite cafés that I discovered this weekend. One of the first things I do when I move to a new place is explore all the cafés because there are so many aspects of cafés and café-hopping that I love… First of all, I enjoy coffee and matcha, and I like to find places where I can treat myself to something special, especially at the weekend after a long week of work at university. And although I love going to cafés alone to work or read from time to time, I also enjoy the social aspect. Cafés are great meeting places for friends who are just getting to know each other, or for long-time best friends who want to get together once a week, or of course for a little date. Visiting cafés is also something I like to do all year round. Whether I’m sitting in the sun with an iced latte in summer or spring and enjoying the excitement that the warmer months always bring, or whether I’m cosying up with a cappuccino in autumn or winter to escape the rainy cold.

I think I’ve been to most of the cafés in Linköping, I know where I like the coffee and the atmosphere, and I have a few fixed places to go. There are certain aspects I like in all these cafés, but I have to say that none of them have everything, so I always kept my eyes open for somewhere else. This weekend, my friends and I wanted to get out of Linköping for a bit, so we decided to rent a car for a few hours and go exploring. In the process, we stumbled upon this gem of a café called “Open New Doors Bahnhof”. The café is in Mjölby, and I already regret that it is not in Linköping. The special thing about this place is that it seems to be built into an old train station – as the German name “Bahnhof” suggests.

The atmosphere in this café was so relaxing and cosy, I really could have spent the whole day there. And the best thing for me and my friends: the whole café was vegan! If any of my former veggie friends read this blog, YOU HAVE TO GO THERE. Although Sweden is very progressive when it comes to veganism, it can sometimes be difficult to attend fika in cafes with non-vegan friends. But in this café there was everything from cakes to crossaints to semla and bread, from savoury dishes to fantastic coffee.

What’s also special about the place is that there is a second, smaller house right next to it with a bakery where all the goods for the café are delivered fresh. You can also buy bread and fika to go there, and let me tell you, the almond crossaints are divine. The café also offers special games and pizza nights, which I definitely want to go to sometime. It’s super easy to get to by car and only takes about 20 minutes, but unfortunately it’s not as quick by public transport. But depending on which train you catch, it can be as fast as 30 minutes.

Do you have any favourite places you would recommend? Let me know in the comments below if you like :). And if you have some time, you should visit this café! I hope you enjoyed this little blog and I’ll see you soon //M.
