Coming to Sweden is already a big step, as you didn’t limit yourself to studying a programme in your country and found one that will truly suit you. If you do not come from an English-speaking country, English will be the first skill you will hone as it will become your everyday language.

Every course features a few lectures, main literature to read and projects, labs or essays. The rest of the time, you are free to explore more in-depth literature in specific areas, case studies that intrigue you, etc. This freedom can be exhilarating but also terrifying: how do I choose which material to read and which projects to do?

Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself:

1- why did you choose LiU and this programme? what did you intend to learn (skills, knowledge)?

2- what do you already know about this specific subject? what are your personal learning goals for this course? what parts resonate with you and make you want to dig deeper?

3- who can you work with that will bring you a new perspective? who will challenge you?

4- what do you want to focus on this semester/year, and what is secondary?

And remember that while you will learn through your classes, there are also many opportunities to learn outside your classroom walls (associations, activities, personal projects, friends, etc.).
