Sweden is a very beautiful country. It has always been one of my dream country to visit. I am so glad that I am studying at my dream destination. When I got my notification of selection, I couldn’t control my happiness. However, coming here was not that easy. As I come from India, which obviously doesn’t belong to EU/EEA countries, I need to have a resident permit. Getting a residence permit is a very long process. Usually it takes around 2-3 months. As I was aware of this process and the duration, I paid my 1st semester tuition fee as early as possible and applied for residence permit on 15th May, 2021. I received my Residence Permit card by the end of July, 2021.

You need the following documents in order to apply for “RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR STUDIES IN HIGHER EDUCATION”:

2. Notification of Selection (from University Admissions)
3. Proof of funds

Process:
1. Apply for the residence permit through (Migrationsverket)
2. Pay the application fee. (1500 SEK, may vary next year)
3. Wait for the decision email (around 20 days)
4. If additional document is required upload the required and wait for decision email again.
5. If application is granted, book the nearest appointment available immediately at the embassy of Sweden.
6. Go for biometrics on the appointment date.
7. Wait for Residence permit to arrive.

For the first time visa applicant, you can apply for a period of 13 months, ie. 01/08/2022 to 31/08/2022. You need to show SEK 8694 per month for a period of 13 months. I would suggest to keep some extra amount than (13*8694 ) as the currency conversion varies everyday.

NOTE: The maintenance requirement per month varies annually. For this year it is SEK 8694.
