If you are wondering right now, didn’t she already do a short trip to Helsinki? Yes! Yes, I did. However, some classmates of mine wanted to go to Helsinki during a week that we had off. So, I chose to come with once more. This time we decided to stay one night there, this way we had more time to see the city and explore some more.

So again, we started our trip by taking the train to Stockholm to catch the ferry there. This time we took the Silja Line, which makes a stop in Mariehamn. Again, the boat left at 5pm and arrived in Helsinki at 10am the next day. First, we went to our Airbnb to leave our luggage. We had great luck with the weather this time around. So, we walked back into town and visited the Cathedral and the Russian Church. We grabbed some lunch at a marketplace with some Finish snacks.

Of course, I couldn’t leave Helsinki again before going to a Sauna. There was one in particular we wanted to go to, called Löyly. Sadly, it was booked out. A quick google search later we found a great alternative. The Uusi Sauna had 3 different Saunas, a mixed, a women’s and a men’s. We were mostly alone in the Saunas. At the included bar you could grab a cold beer. It was a great experience and a definite must do when in Finland. After the very relaxing Sauna and a nice shower we met up with the rest of our friends for dinner before ending the night.

The next morning, we went to visit the Suomenlinna Fortress which is located on an island right outside Helsinki. To get there you have to take a 15-minute ferry trip. The ferry was included in the public transport ticket we got the first day. It was great fun to walk around the island and explore the tunnels and canons all over.

After a nice pizza for lunch, it was almost time to board the boat back to Stockholm. We had great fun watching the boat leave the harbour while a small storm came right at us.

I have now been twice to Helsinki and can definitely recommend a trip there. I did find this trip a bit more relaxed as we spend one night there.

All the best,

Emily
