In one of my previous blogs, I wrote the overalls at LiU and their connection to the Student Associations. But there is a lot more to them than just the overalls or the organization of its inauguration. So here is my quick introduction on them.

STUFF - STUDENT KÅRENAt LiU there are 3 different Student Unions (LinTek, CONSENSUS, StuFF) and a total of 42 student associations or, how they are called here, Sections. Basically, almost every programme regardless of bachelor or master has an assigned Section. Now, what is the difference between Student Unions and Sections? While the Student Unions focus on issues concerning all university students, the Sections do more study and programme specific work. The Sections are responsible for organizing sittings, seminars, parties, labour market fairs or international trips. They also organize the Nolle-P (introduction week) and conduct education monitoring. If you have an issue with your studies you can also contact them. If there is an issue the section can’t resolve on their own they will come in contact with StuFF, who will talk to university management. The Unions and the Sections are a way for the students to make their issues and wishes heard by university officials.

FLiNSBut how can you find out which Section you belong to? Because I study International and European Relations my student union is StuFF and my Section is FliNS. You can find a list of all the Sections on the LiU website. Here you find the Student Unions, the corresponding Section names and the programmes/faculties they are responsible for. You can also become a member of your section. Either you can join the different committees they have or a regular member as which you can enjoy some discounts.

All Sections and Student Union have an Instagram account and Facebook. They usually also publish their events on Facebook. If you want to get in contact with them this is an easy way to get a quick answer. Each Section also has a designated Section room in Kårhuset Kårallen, which is a building on Valla Campus. You can also go by there during opening hours and talk to them directly.

I hope this gives you a small impression of what student life looks like in

All the best,

Emily

By the way, you can find all the Section and organization logos on the brand hill leading up to Campus Valla. The logos get repainted every summer.
