Curling is a team sport, played on ice, where two teams take it in turns to slide stones made of granite towards a target – known as a House. It is an Olympic and Paralympic winter sport with medal disciplines for Women’s, Men’s, Mixed Doubles, and Mixed Wheelchair teams.

One fine evening, I got a message from my friend to go to for curling. Surprisingly, I discovered this sport just a couple of months back through a viral video. Initially, I had a notion of having this game very boring. Imagining going on a short road trip of 30 min to Mjolby, I said yes. Honestly, I was more excited for the drive than the sport.

Except for 1 person, we 3 didn’t have any experience of this sport. As my friend suggested, I carried good winter clothes, as it was assumed to be cold inside. When we entered the place, I realized it to be a very old sport, with pictures of players from the 1950s and older. The flags of several clubs also make it evident to be a popular sport. When we were going through a magazine reading about the sport, 2 people came to brief us. That is when we realized, the specialty of the shoes. One of the shoes is extremely slippery for you to glide on the ice while the other serves the opposite.

The first time I went on track, I felt so scared to fall. It was extremely difficult for me to balance. I felt like quitting. I even fell a couple of times while throwing the stone. However, you are also given a helmet for safety. As we proceeded the game turned out to be interesting and challenging. Managing the speed, balance, and curl, altogether was challenging, but was fun. The fee for a 2-hour session was 100 SEK. I thank my friend for inviting me. It was an amazing Sunday afternoon. I highly recommend you to try it. I hope to play it soon.

Thank you for reading.
Stay tuned !!!
