A few nights ago, as I entered room R23 in C-huset, one of the university buildings, I felt my body changing.

As my body was painfully shrinking, my head felt wounded, as if someone was stretching my mouth and my ears. I had become a ‘hideously ugly’ small creature with globulous red eyes and pockets full of tormented caterpillars: I was now a goblin named Reta.

I wasn’t in Linköping anymore but deep in Brinestump Marsh, where my Licktoad tribe was residing. I hardly recognized my former friends as the chief called us to go on a mission: we were to retrieve fireworks based on a handwritten map. At the celebration party —before we left—, I was challenged to eat 5 huge slimy local delicacies that I found foul-tasting. As I won that challenge, the chief lent me a Gorge of Glutton, a weapon very useful if I was going to face any horse. My teammates however had trouble dealing with their challenges as Mogmurk, drunk, fell asleep in barbed wire and Poog was thrown off a pig.

Nevertheless, the next morning we embarked on our journey. We ran into a huge spider on the treetops, menacing us. Together, we bravely put an end to its existence. After discovering its lair and collecting some artefacts, we went on with our perilous quest.

A bit further down the path, we found the spot marked with an ‘X’. It was a shipwreck, in the middle of a muddy horse paddock. We swiftly went by the malnourished horse, got stung by bees, climbed unto the boat, faced off with canines.

But before we could grab the loot and go home, the night abruptly ended. I was back into my human form.

I said goodbye to my first Dungeons & Dragons friends —yes, I’m a newbie—, wishing to meet again soon to finish our common expedition.

This fun role-playing game night couldn’t have happened without the D20, a committee in the D-section that focuses on arranging role-playing activities!

Have you ever played Dungeons & Dragons, or would you like to try?
