During my first few months in Linköping there was a lot of new stuff to discover, new people to meet and things to get used to. So, it actually took me a while to get settled: my room is now really cosy, I got some organization into my kitchen utensils, I applied for SFI (Swedish for Foreigners) and I signed up for Martial Arts. I found the last thing to be really fun and good to let out some stress.

There are actually several different places that offer Martial Arts courses:

Fight Centre Linköping

The fight Centre offers Thai boxing, MMA, Boxing and even self-defence classes. Most adult classes are taught in the evening. They do have a Bootcamp in the morning where you can train together with others. Memberships available with monthly cost for students varying from 349 SEK to 449 SEK. LiU students get the summer month for free (June, July and August). There is also a start up fee to be paid to start a membership which is 450 SEK. You can easily sign up online on their website if you have a personal number. It is also possible to sign up without a personal number. They are are located in town at Nygatan 52, 582 27 Linköping close to the bus stop ‘Barnhemsgatan’. More information is available on their website fightcenter.se

Linköping’s Budoclubb

The Budoclubb offers a great variety of different courses like Aikido, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jodo, MMA, Thai boxing, Karate, Kendo and more. To be able to train in any of these courses you will have to become member which costs 1500 SEK per Semester (January to June or August to December) plus a small administration fee of 45 SEK. While training at the location you will be insured as long as you wear a mouth guard, which makes sense to get in general to protect your teeth. The main Dojo is located at Björnkärrsgatan 14, 584 36 Linköping, Karate for example is taught at a different location in town which you can find on their website linkopingbudo.se. You can sign up on the website as well. If you don’t have a personal number just contact them via email to become a member.

Endeavour MMA Linköping

They offer course in MMA, Striking and Grappling. They even have separate classes for girls. As a student it costs around 2200 SEK per semester. If you don’t want to train in regular course you can also get a 10-clip card and join classes when it fits you. They recently changed their name which is why they currently don’t have an active website, but you can find all the information on their Instagram or even contact them there if you have more specific questions.

For me didn’t really matter which I chose as I wasn’t looking for a specific course or type of martial arts. In the end I decided to go with the BJJ course offered by the Budoclubb mainly because their gym is located 3 minutes by foot from where I live. It has been really fun.

I hope this helps you in finding a fitting places to train!

All the best,

Emily
