Imagining living with 7 different people in the same house, sharing the same kitchen and the living area, scared me initially. At the same time, I wanted to know the city better before deciding to shift to an individual apartment. Another fact I heard before coming here was fake advertisements about apartments. Based on several factors, I finally decided to move to a corridor room. Was it a good decision? We will figure it out later in the post.

I signed up for all the different housing companies after I got my admission, thus I didn’t have enough points to be confident to get accommodation easily. Luckily, in the month of July, I received 5 offers for multiple corridors. In order to save some money, I decided to take an unfurnished room. A couple of days later, I realized that I will reach Linköping in the evening around 6 PM. I felt the initial days would be really difficult without basic furnishing. Thus, I mailed the housing company about switching to a furnished room(which was offered to me earlier).

After two weeks I got my room booked, a friend of mine from my previous university in India (currently studying at Linköping University), texts me asking about accommodation. He got a doubt after looking at a nameplate next to his room mentioning “A Anand”. And, we figured out it was me. So, basically, I already have someone whom I know living next to my room in Linköping. I felt so relaxed then and thanked myself for choosing a corridor room.

Eventually, other corridor mates arrived. We had people from India, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Nigeria, and Switzerland. It was a good bunch of people, so like-minded. We enjoyed each other’s company. From arranging several dinner nights(Indian, German, Belgian, Swiss, Swedish) to having several movie nights, we had a lot of fun. We planned to have corridor dinner twice a month.

With these great people, I couldn’t even notice how quickly this first semester of my masters was over. Since 3 of my corridor mates were exchange students, they had to leave now. Ahhhh!!! Trust me this was a tough moment. After spending these months together, and having such great memories, It was really difficult. So, yeah It was a great choice for me to stay in a corridor.

Below are a couple of memories from my corridor.
Stay tuned !!!
