2021 was another year overshadowed by COVID. However, it was still full of adventures and changes for me. So, here is a quick rewind of my 2021 journey to Sweden:

January

The 15th of January was the application deadline for the fall term 2021/22. I was really worried that I had forgotten to do something important when the deadline hit.

April

I spend every day since the application closed anxiously waiting for the 9th of April, the day the results would be published. I got so excited when I saw that I got admitted to Linköping University. That same night I started looking up everything there was to know about Linköping and the university. I also immediately signed up for housing and started applying for corridor rooms.

May

My efforts of looking for housing early paid off as I got offered an unfurnished corridor room. I immediately excepted it and started looking into how I would decorate my room. After this I couldn’t wait to make the move.

June

I got my second COVID vaccination which at the time meant I was allowed to travel to Sweden without any further restrictions.

July

Mid July it was finally time for me to pack up everything and drive up to Sweden. After 2 days of driving with a night in Lund I finally reached Linköping. I didn’t get to spend much time there. I basically just dropped everything off at my corridor room and bought some furniture before driving back home to spend some last few days at home.

August

At the beginning of August, I came back to Linköping. This time to stay. I spend the first two weeks going to a lot of ESN and ISA events where I got to meet any new people and some of my classmates already.

At the end of August, I had my role call. Role call means you show up and confirm that you will be attending the programme. Here I met even more of my fellow classmates who have become good friends of mine.

September

In September I was invited to interview to be an International Student Ambassador which turned out successful. Shortly after all of us Ambassador met up for the first time. It was really fun to meet new people from other programme and even from the Norrköping Campus.

October

After almost 2 months of waiting, I finally received my Swedish personal number. But there was still a lot of administrative work to be done. I still needed to get a Swedish ID and Bank account. This whole process took quite some time and nerves out of me.

November

By the 1st of November I was finally fully admitted to LiU. Previously I was only conditionally accepted because I was still waiting on my Bachelor Certificate.

The end of November also marked the end of my 3rd course of this first semester. The last week of each course is usually the most stressful one for me as the examination papers are due.

December

After a fun and delicious Corridor Christmas Dinner I went home for the first time since I moved to Linköping. It was really nice to see my whole family again during the festive days.

I’m excited to see what other things Sweden has in store for me in 2022.

All the best,

Emily
