I was working at the Facilities and Services department for an international company in my country, where I was leading all the projects related to the sustainability. During that time, I was always thinking how to strengthen my capabilities in this specific area. I did different courses and trainings. But never felt like that was enough. I was always thinking the practical experience is always outweigh the theoretical one. I started searching for masters’ programs in sustainable development. And I narrowed my search area to the most sustainable countries in the world.

After a deep search, I decided to stretch my qualification in Sweden. It is one of the top ten countries in the world. It is not only about the country nor the government. But the even the Swedish people doing their best to drive a sustainable way of living for their themselves and their families and the people around. They hope to become the first fossil-fuel free country in the world by 2050.

I looked up every university and the programs they offer that are related to sustainable development. After I analyzed the pros and cons for each program. I ended up choosing Linkoping university for the below reasons.

1- The program offers a holistic interdisciplinary approach to current societal problems, such as climate change, natural resource exploitation, increasing energy demand and inequality. It also allows you to explore the complexity of creating sustainable societies in alignment with the principles of sustainable development and Agenda 2030, and that was exactly what I wanted. I did not want to only study theories and theoretical stuff but more about practical approaches where we can find solutions for our environmental and social issues.

2- Linkoping has good ranking among the world universities, and the employability percentage is very high 9/10. In addition, the cost of the program was reasonable for me comparing to other universities.

3- Living in a small city was one of my targets. For someone like me been living in a very big city like Cairo, which has the most population in Egypt with 10.03 million approx. so living in a very quiet and small city is some chilling where you can go everywhere with your bike, and it is not only sustainable but also healthy!
