Hi everyone, I am so excited to be here, and share my stories with you. I am from China, currently living in South Sudan, and I am studying the Gender Studies master’s program with Linköping University online. As I am the first student ambassador at Linköping University outside of Sweden, I know that this will be an exciting journey with many challenges.

So how does it feel like to be a student ambassador outside of Sweden?

1. It’s tough!
It is really tough to be far away from all the other students! While I really enjoy talking to people from different countries and cultures, I could not join the offline activities together with other student ambassadors.

Well, we tried!

Once, when the student ambassador had a gathering event together, I attended the event…. online! It was pretty funny as I was sitting together with everyone (as a laptop) in cold Linköping while it was crazy hot in the place I was at. In addition, my internet was quite unstable, I could hear people talking sometimes, but none of them could really hear me. Nevertheless, it was definitely an interesting experience, although it was a little bit frustrating for me (I really want to join the live conversation)!!

2. It’s fun!
Studying online is the best when you are working or traveling. Same for meeting new friends, technology shortened the distance between people regardless of the physical distance. Although I am in Africa, I was able to “meet” students all around the world.

As a distance learning student, I don’t get as many interactions with students from other majors, being a student ambassador gave me the chance to learn from people from different majors, and also expand my social network (so that I have more friends to hang out with when I visit Sweden!!). Being a digital student ambassador is a new experience for me, it is also unique for other students as well as our university, and I believe this will be fun for all of us!

3. I’m excited!
Like I said earlier, I am super excited to study at Linköping University and to be a student ambassador, although I am living far away from Sweden. I plan to visit Linköping and to meet other students soon, hopefully that will make my “distance learning student” life more colorful. I am ready for the new journey! And you?
