Living in Linköping comes with the exciting possibility of many trips… and I plan to take them all, and then share all of my insights with you.

I don’t know about you, but throughout the week my life is super hectic, and there is barely any time to sit down and plan out a trip. Stockholm, however, is not just super easy to reach, it also is bustling with activities to do, and sights to see. So let me share some of the places I went to in my very short trip, and maybe you’ll find something on there that you would like to check out on your next trip as well!

Transportation: There are various ways to get to Stockholm, and while Flixbus is probably one of the cheapest, it also takes quite long. So we booked a train with the app omioYou can also book tickets on the SJ app, but omio usually has  some really good deals. Sometimes when you book last minutes you can get even cheaper tickets as well, and since it only takes about 1,40h to reach Stockholm by train, it’s perfect for a last minute trip!

Hostel: Again, there are numerous options for lodging in Stockholm, but I always like to have a look on the app Hostelworld to compare prices, and most importantly reviews, of the places I stay at. In case you don’t want to search long, I can recommend the City Backpackers HostelIt was very close to the train station, and honestly, one of the nicest hostels I’ve been to so far! + they had free pasta… and I’m Italian… I believe you know how the rest of the story goes. Oh and just don’t forget to bring a lock (like I did) or earplugs (also like me) to lock your possessions in your room and to get a full night of sleep!

Common kitchen of the hostel!

Food: There are so many amazing options in this category that we actually had trouble deciding where we wanted to go. Pro tip: on maps, the Iphone app, you can look up specific food places, and then add them to a list. So for example you could look up: vegan food, and you’ll get a ton of recommendations. Save them to a list if they sound good and you’ll already be prepared for the next time!

We had lunch at MyVegina (Norrtullsgatan 21, 113 45 Stockholm) for example, and their vegan food was amazing. The restaurant is very small, but pretty cosy. We also had some food at Kafé Plattan, they had a salad bar, panini and several cakes (all vegan) that were super tasty as well.

Gast Café

On Sunday for late breakfast we went to Gast Café (Rådmansgatan 57, 113 60 Stockholm). I really liked this place, and would definitely go back. The café was surprisingly big, super cozy and their coffee and breakfast options were lovely.

Also there are many opportunities to get a drink in the evening, we pretty much just went for a walk and entered a lively pub on our way!

Galleries: I personally love big cities for their museums and galleries. Even on a short trip, and especially when the sky is grey and the air smells like rain. We stumbled upon the Kulturhuset first, only by chance, after checking out a little market, and were able to visit three exhibitions for free! It was not just great to get inspired by the art, but the building and its view was worth a visit by itself!

We also visited Moderna Museet, a contemporary art museum located at the  island of Skeppsholme. There was no need to pre-book any tickets, so this was perfect for our spontaneous trip! And again, the free exhibition made this trip more budget friendly.

As for “Sightseeing” tips, my friends and I honestly just wandered around most of the time and actually ended up in some really pretty places. I love just exploring a new city, without always having a fixed plan as to what we should see. If you still want some inspiration: Gamla stan, Stockholm’s old town was really nice to wander through and continuing on that way you can reach a platform overlooking the city.

Also, the second hand shops in Stockholm were amazing! I definitely want to go back and explore more of them myself. All of the ones I saw  had a really good selection of clothes and were really well organised as well! (Examples: Emmaus, HUMANA Second Hand, Beyond Retro, Arkivet)

Anyways, this concludes a spontaneous, short trip to Stockholm. I hope some of you found some interesting spots from this that you will visit yourself, or maybe just got you excited for your own trip to Stockholm!
